Customer Stories: 40 Years in a Baxter State Parka

Here at L.L.Bean, we pride ourselves in being a purpose-driven outdoor retailer - to inspire and enable people to experience the restorative power of being outside. We couldn’t do that without you. Our loyal customers constantly inspire us, and that is why we are excited to share a story of a well-worn Baxter State Parka that has kept two of our customers warm for more than 40 years.

The story of our beloved Baxter State Parka is one that goes back. For over 40 years, this jacket has kept us warm throughout the coldest days of winter in Virginia. And by “us,” I mean my husband until he grew out of it and myself as I took care of our many dogs in all sorts of weather. This coat has seen it all…

The rain resistant outer layer has been wiped down more times that I can count, washed more than I thought a coat could be washed. We have our bloodhounds to thank for that! The pockets have been stuffed with hats, gloves, treats, keys, everything you can imagine, helping to keep us prepared for what our every day brings.

Our hand-me-down clothing piece has been so well-loved that we have had to sew various parts multiple times to keep it going – this truly has been our favorite coat.
