What school backpack capacity should I choose?

Start with backpack volume in liters (L). This assortment includes school packs labeled from 17L up to 42L in the product name, so you can choose based on how much needs to come along each school day.

What does the liter (L) number on a school backpack mean?

It is the pack's volume. A 24L backpack is a larger capacity than a 17L backpack, and you will also see larger options like 37L, 41L, and 42L; check Specs for the exact dimensions.

How can I tell if a lunch box is the right size for my containers?

Compare your containers to the lunch box dimensions and capacity listed in Specs. For example, one Lunch Box is listed at about 270 cu in (4.4 L) and 9.5 in H x 7 in W x 3.75 in D, which you can use as a quick reference point.

Are school backpacks and lunch boxes sold as sets?

Most are sold separately. If a backpack and lunch box are packaged together, it will be clearly stated on the item page and in the product name.

How do I coordinate a school backpack with a lunch box and water bottle?

Match the color or print name across items. Many school backpacks and lunch boxes are offered in shared color families, which makes it easier to put together a coordinated school kit.

From the first day to the last, school backpacks and lunch boxes help keep school routines moving. L.L.Bean has been making school packs since 1982, with classic options in solid colors and prints for students and adults.

When choosing a school backpack, start with capacity. Many styles list volume right in the name - from about 17L for lighter loads up to 42L for bigger school days - and the item page will include full dimensions and Specs for a closer look. Explore book pack favorites and more in School Backpacks.

Lunch boxes are an easy add-on for the school day, whether you are packing snacks or a full meal. Check each item's Specs for dimensions and capacity (often shown in cubic inches and liters), then compare those numbers to your containers. See more options in Lunch Boxes, and round out the kit with Water Bottles.

To make school mornings simpler, coordinate a backpack, lunch box, and water bottle by choosing the same color or print name across items. If you want a curated starting point, visit Back-to-school backpacks.
