After trying on just about every pair of pants on earth, I have found pants that fit and flatter. These aren't high-end or low-end -- they are just sensible, comfortable, WASHABLE pants with pockets (Hello, cell phone! You have a home!) and will be worn multiple times per week. The navy works with navy garments I already own. The adjustable waist means I can have pants that fit in the hips AND in the waist. Now who do I have to bribe to get these made in gray -- a light shade and a dark shade, please. (I'll bake you a pie!)

I'm 5'6", 115 lbs., 34" hips and 29" waist, and the size 4 is just right. I obviously don't have a curvy shape and the stretch in the comfort waist doesn't come into play. So, I have no bulging with the pockets. When I'd first ordered 2 pair and they were crammed in the mailbox, they came out wrinkle free and ready to wear. Wash and dry great--no wrinkles.

I purchased three (3) pair of these kind of pants. I returned all three because of where the elastic was placed on these pants, right around the pockets. So when you zip up the pants, the elastic pulls out the pockets which looks very unflattering.
LL Bean have to put the elastic either more on the side or the back, but not where it is now.
I kept one pair because I already wore them and did not feel comfortable returning them since they were worn.

I like the fabric but the fit didn't work for me. Rise was way too high and the pockets were awful. They did not lie flat. I hope these pants will be redesigned and if so I will try again. I should have paid more attention to reviews of other customers who did not like the fit of these hidden comfort waist classic fit Bayside Pants. I appreciate L.L. Bean's easy return policy.

I've been buying LL Bean Bayside pants for years now, and have been very happy with them. Because I discovered I'd gone down a size, I tried the size 12 of the Classic Fit Hidden Comfort Waist. The waistline of the "classic fit" was lower than I expected, but that wasn't what annoyed me.
The design of the "Hidden Comfort" waist now means that the material of the waistline is folded over internally at the pocket, so that there is an inch gap between the pocket and the material. As a result, there is a "hole" in the pocket near the top, so that I'd be nervous about putting keys or anything else in there, for fear they'd fall through. I had bought two pairs, and checked both; the pockets were the same, so it wasn't a mistake.
I'm not sure what the designers were thinking, but I'm very disappointed. This is the first negative review I've given to an LL Bean product. I'm going to shop and see if a different style of the Bayside Pants don't have this problem, but if this is a new style feature, I'm going to have to find another source for slacks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Rhymetime Bad cut with bulging pockets, liked old design
I have worn LL Bean's Bayside pants for years. They have been comfortable, durable, and versatile enough to wear to work. So when my old pairs eventually wore out, I ordered new ones as I have in the past. I'm disappointed with whatever redesign has been done. The fit is off and the pockets bulge out and look bad. Unfortunately, I've had to return these.
LL Bean--Please bring back the old style, which was clearly popular with many people.

VERY BIG pocket bulge. The entire side seam bulges. I am a 8P with slim hips and legs.

They're fine, but the pockets have a flare that is noticeable. It depends on your body type, but I'm a size 10 and average proportioned, so I didn't expect to find the pocket bulge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KP1012 Hidden Comfort Waistband too bulky
The Hidden Comfort Waistband is too thick and bulky, and there is something wrong with the zipper - it won't lay flat, but instead always bulges out. The two front belt loops are not close enough to the zipper. This causes my belt buckle to slid up above the front button and completely off of the waist band, which is both uncomfortable and unsightly. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go back to the regular normal waist band. I bought one of these pants a little over a year ago and had to return it for these same reasons. I bought another pair last month, hoping that the problems have been fixed. I am so disappointed that the same problems still exist. I can say however, that the fabric is great and the quality of construction is excellent. Now, if you could only fix these design problems...

Rated 1 out of 5 by Hokie85 Just plain weird
I bought these because they are Bean's only "classic fit" chinos that come in Navy. The hidden comfort waistband is a really weird sensation--I felt like either my fly was down or the pants were going to fall off (neither was the case). The construction has enough overlap that your underwear doesn't show through the pockets. I like the fabric, as it is fairly hefty and comes in a nice assortment of colors. It just feels weird. I am returning them.
