I read most of the reviews and was on the fence about this "Shirt" or "Jacket". Here is my take after owning it for a week.
I wear it with a thin shirt in 30 degree weather no problem.
It stops the wind pretty well, even driving 65mph with my arm out the window I couldn't really feel the air.
The wool is thick and the shirt/jacket is put together well.
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 195lbs
Waist - 33"
Chest - 46"
Size Ordered - Large
Shoulders - Perfect
Chest - Fit Great
Arms - Fit Great
Waist(Belly) - Terrible
To elaborate, this jacket fits weird. It is definitely made for the sedentary North American Male. The upper body fits perfectly with a light sweater and the belly, well, I could fit a couple full grown beavers there.
I totally agree with the other reviews that say it needs a more modern cut, but only, ONLY, in the stomach area. The rest of the jacket is cut for an outdoorsman with actual shoulders, not hipster shoulders.
Well first off, let's change the category that it is housed under on the website, it isn't a shirt, it is a jacket.
I know that the other wool jackets on here have pockets and I would love to see a couple handwarmer pockets on this jacket or at least an internal pocket, somewhere that you could put a phone and your hands...but that is being super picky.
I like this jacket enough that I will be taking it to a tailor to see if I can get a price on taking in the stomach...if it isn't to expensive I am getting it done.

Great quality material and pattern is a classic, however the overall fit needs a modern update. I would recommend the fit for a grandpa, but for a younger man it would help LL Bean's market appeal if they made this in a more form fitting or modern cut version. I will try to take the shirt to a tailor to remedy the outdated fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Whiskeyrunner Great look and feel
Found this before the Christmas run leaves them high and dry. Great look and performance as described.
6' 172lbs I purchased the Large and found it to be perfect. Sleeves slightly longer and body is roomy ( for layering).
Length could be longer by a couple of inches.
All in all a great purchase!

This "shirt" is very nice. However, it is only a shirt if you live where it gets 0 degrees and below. I live in North TX, and, this is not a shirt. It is a jacket. I couldn't possibly imagine layering it over any thing. I wear, and bought, an XL. I would say there was not enough room in it to layer over a sweater, especially in the arms. It just fit a little loose by itself. I wear a 34" sleeve, and, I would say the sleeves are close to 2" too long. But, they're ok. They wouldn't be noticeably long unless someone was concentrating on the sleeves. The green is very vibrant. I'd like to have the blue buffalo plaid also, but, for me it's really a jacket, so, I can't justify the cost for 2 of them. Overall, a very nice shirt/jack. I believe it has to be dry cleaned, so, I'd say it's not really for wear in a dirty area.

The insulated liner makes this shirt excellent. On and off without the standard wool grabbing and catching everything. It adds quite a bit of warmth although the insulation is scant at best. But we don't want a winter coat here, just a nice cool weather shirt we can layer over a sweater or sweatshirt. It excels admiringly.
The sizing is large. Order down one size than what you usually get. I'm 5'11" 175 lbs and the medium is loose on me. Perfect.
Just what I wanted.

It's a beautiful shirt. It's comfortable, fits well, looks great. But it's really more of a jacket than a shirt. The combination of the wool outer shell with a lining makes it just too warm to wear around indoors for very long. It will be great for raking leaves, bringing in wood and walking the dog in the cool fall weather.
The only drawback is that it is made with "DRY CLEAN ONLY" wool. If this shirt was only made with a comfortable heavy flannel, I would give it 10 stars.

I absolutely love this shirt. It is very warm and comfortable and fits perfectly over a hooded sweat-shirt. I don't know why I didn't order this shirt years ago. Order it, you won't be disappointed.
