Rated 3 out of 5 by CToutdoor19 Great shirt...but the sizing???
I wanted to like this shirt so much. Been looking at it for two years before finally pulling the trigger a few days ago. Should have listened to the reviews. It's great looking, and seems very warm, but unless your body is a square or have a big belly I can't see it looking good. I'm 6'1, 210 athletic build and ordered a L. Shoulders and length of arms were fine. Chest was fine. Stomach area was huge and the overall length was very very short. Will be returning, although very disappointed.

Purchased this for my husband for Christmas. He adores it! Just the right weight for our cold New England winters. He wears it all weekend during errands or chores outside. He appreciates the roominess because he can layer without feeling constricted. He did ask me to shorten the cuffs a bit as they were too long for him. A bit of patience and quiet and you can't even tell that I altered them. Love the quality of this jacket! The blue check must be popular as I had to wait a bit for a back order! Buy one! You won't be disappointed.
Would really love to see this same shirt jacket in a lighter weight version too, maybe without the primaloft but with the nylon lining. Perfect for cool spring weather.

I was in the market for a shirt jacket, mainly something I could throw on when I need to run outside to walk the dog, get some firewood, etc. I was pairing this to fit over a hooded sweatshirt.
What drew me to this jacket was the primaloft. I have a couple other winter coats with primaloft and they have all been quite effective at keeping my warm. I'm a big fan.
I decided to purchase the Maine Guide shirt with primaloft along with the Primaloft Lined Shirt Jac (which comes slightly fitted). I purchased a medium and a large in the Maine Guide and a large in the other shirt jac. I really, really wanted to keep the Maine Guide jac but the fits were just way off. The medium was perfect for my waist and I didn't feel like I was swimming in the shirt jac, but the upper body wasn't as comfortable. The large Maine Guide had the opposite problem...perfect in the chest but awful in the waist. Felt as though I could wrap the thing around me it was so big. The Primaloft Lined Shirt Jac, size Large, combined the best of both worlds and fit perfect in the chest area and the waist area, so I kept that one and returned both Maine Guide's.
As I said, I really would have liked to keep the Maine Guide, but in the end the bad fit wasn't worth it. I ended up with the Primaloft Lined Shirt Jac and it really is a great piece of outerwear and what I needed. If LL Bean ever decides to make the Maine Guide with Primaloft in a slightly fitted version I would strongly consider purchasing it. If they don't, I still think I made out pretty well with the Primaloft Lined Shirt Jac.
As a point of reference, I'm 6 foot, about 185 pounds, with a 33 inch waist and 42 inch chest.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ArnAnderson So warm, but why the super husky cut?
I'm not skinny, but I can pull the buttoned front of this shirt jacket a full foot out from the front of my body. Way too much extra fabric through the waist. Otherwise, this jacket is GREAT -- Primaloft sooooo warm!

This is my second one. I purchased a red one earlier this is a review of the Green. This product is excellent, warm and good fit. I m a big guy so cloths that fit are hard to find. 6'5" 280 lbs. I ordered xxl Tall and it fits great. I use this more as a jacket than a shirt. Perfect with a light tee and then this keeps you warm. Expensive I know but this is something you will have for 20 years . Highly recommend

At the southern range of the Rockies the wind can be fierce and makes a cold day seriously colder. This shirt stand up to it all. The lining blocks the wind, the wool is heavy enough for comfort and the shirt/jacket is well made. Pockets are large enough to carry a smart phone. Collar turns up far enough to offer adequate protection. And above all it is reliably warm.
The only complaints are that the shirt is not made in the US of A (but that hardly qualifies as a complaint anymore) and the color in green check is better suited to the mall than the woods.
No matter. I wear it all the time everywhere. That is, after all, the most important consideration.

I ordered a new one this evening, replacing one I've had for 10 years. My old one is still in good shape except for the cuffs showing some wear. It still has another 10 year left in it but I just wanted a new one.
I was relieved to find that nothing has changed with this shirt. Thank you LL Bean.

This has become my new favorite jacket! Layers easily over anything because of liner on the inside. I have worn it in 20 degree weather and never been cold one bit!

Love the Maine guide Shirt, feels so nice, thick and soft like the wool they used to make right here in Wilton Maine (only better with more loft), Very warm and seems to shed the rain, Well worth the money and should last for years.
