FAQs
Start with cold food and drinks, then pack the cooler with larger items on the bottom and the most-used items near the top. Fill gaps with ice so contents stay evenly chilled and organized. Opening the cooler less often also helps it stay cold longer.
Pack heavier items like drink containers and larger food items on the bottom of the cooler. This helps create a stable base and keeps more delicate foods from getting crushed. Put snacks, sandwich fixings or anything you’ll reach for often closer to the top.
They can, but using one cooler for drinks and another for food often makes packing easier. A drink cooler usually gets opened more often, while a food cooler stays more consistently cold. If you’re bringing just one cooler, keep food grouped together so it’s easy to find.
A fuller cooler is usually easier to pack well than one with lots of empty space. Grouping contents closely together helps keep things organized and makes better use of your ice. If you need help choosing capacity, see our Cooler Size Guide.
That depends on how much you’re bringing and how you’ll carry it. Hard coolers are a dependable choice for larger loads, while soft coolers, backpack coolers and cooler bags are great for shorter outings and easy transport.
