TURNING THE WORKPLACE INSIDE OUT
We’ve created a corporate goal that encourages all employees to enjoy the outdoors on a regular basis – however often they can. Because research has proven that being outside unleashes creativity and improves health. And because reinforcing the “Be an Outsider” lifestyle to our customers starts with living it ourselves.
This is not about the bottom line. It’s about what it means to work at L.L.Bean. It’s about swapping the conference table for a picnic table. Breaking trail during your lunch break. Or tackling a summit you didn’t think you had time to climb.
So it’s only appropriate that we’ve been helping employees get outside for decades. Now, our Be an Outsider Goal makes it official. Here are just a few ways how we continue the tradition, year after year.
TO MAKE NATURE BETTER
For decades, hundreds of L.L.Bean employees, families and friends have volunteered their time to make sure a section of the Appalachian Trail in Northern Maine stays pristine for all those who hike it. Our annual maintenance trips include miles of hiking, three days of camping, hours of trail work, and plenty of time spent building unbreakable bonds with one another.
WITH PEDALS AND PEERS
Every year, dozens of L.L.Bean employees swap pencil pushing for pedal pushing on an epic 180-mile fundraiser ride along Maine’s beautiful coastal and rural roads. L.L.Bean has been a sponsor of the trek for over 20 years to help support the local community, promote the outdoors, and encourage the health and well-being of employees and their families.
MAKES GETTING OUTSIDE EASY
Like everything we do at L.L.Bean, getting outside is often a team effort. So we created an Employee Outdoor Club to organize regular outings for employees, their families and their friends to enjoy together. From cycling, hiking, fishing and paddling to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, our all-seasons club makes getting involved outdoors as easy as saying, “I’m in!”
