I only gave 4 stars because the zipper needs to be a better quality zipper. It hangs up, the bottom part unzips itself and is difficult to get re-zipped. Several times I ended up just having to step out of the coat & then try and get the zipper working. I would love to see an inside pocket and instead of those itty bitty almost worthless side slash pockets some real honest to goodness pockets that hold more than a set of keys.
I live in the Midwest and we get some frigid weather here - snow, ice storms & high wind. I can take the dogs outside in the worst winter weather in this coat and stay warm. I have a cat sanctuary on our property and make a trek over a minimum of twice a day. This is warmest coat ! This is actually my second one. I use one as a working coat and one as a going out coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anodyne Love this coat
The New York City winters can be a bit unpredictable; a couple of winters ago we had the polar vortex and it barely cracked 20 degrees for a couple of months running, so I decided I needed a really warm coat. After a bunch of research, I decided this one fit the bill. I haven't been disappointed. This coat is super warm, especially with the hood up. It zips and buttons for extra protection, too, if you need it. It's also very long, which for me is a plus; I'm about 5'6" and it reaches about the the very top of my ankle. Shorter women might want to get the three-quarter length coat instead; I actually have to hike this one up slightly when I go up a staircase so I don't trip.
I got the green shade, which I think is called spruce, and it's beautiful -- sort of a slightly bluish green. People have actually stopped me on the street to tell me it's nice. The coat itself is a pretty typical down coat, which is to say it looks a bit like you're wearing a sleeping bag, but hey, as long as I'm warm I don't really care.
My one complaint is that the pockets are quite shallow, so they're not great for holding an iPhone, but that's a minor complaint.
I ordered this coat in December 2014 and it arrived in July 2015, which is actually pretty funny if you think about it. But it was kind of exciting because by the time it arrived I had totally forgotten I ordered it so it was like getting a gift. Anyway, totally worth the wait!

Rated 4 out of 5 by AnnieFromOhio Long & roomy
Beautiful coat- after trying to buy one at a lower price from a competitor (3 exchanges), I gave up a sprung for this. I waffled between S & M, petite & regular. I am 5'4", size 10. I went for the Med Petite. It's very long, sleeves are fine and roomy enough for a heavy sweater. If I wanted a trimmer fit, a small would be fine. I think the regular would be too long. Gorgeous coat.

A tremendously warm coat, but impossible to wash clean. I would recommend buying it in a dark color, because, at least in our experience, even 'everyday' normal dirt and grime will not wash out - at least not when washed according to instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by junx Warmest Coat I've ever owned
I needed a coat that would be warm enough to walk my dogs at 7am in the winter, here in central NJ without freezing. I read other woman's reviews of this coat before I bought this, and my only concerned was whether to buy the Petite or Regular Fit. I'm 5'2" and weight 100 lbs. Based on other reviews I read, I went with the Regular fit, and it's almost perfect - the sleeves are slightly long, but only by 1/2 inch or so, but there is an inner part sewn into the sleeve that stretches to fit snug around the wrist - so no wind can blow up the sleeve. Once I got the coat on, inside my house, it was too warm to wear inside, I had to take it off. I also like that the zipper comes up to my chin, and there is an extra flap with Velcro, that covers any exposed skin between my chin and the coat - nothing cold got in there either. With some coats I've had, I couldn't wear the hood when I was driving, because if I turned my head to look for cars, I would only see the inside of the hood, it didn't move with my head - I don't have that problem with this coat's hood. I love the coat - it keeps me warm, it's really lightweight so its very flexible, and it does everything it said it would. The only negative thing I could possibly say about this coat, is I look a little like the grim reaper in it - it has no real shape to it, but then again, I only weight 100lbs, and I don't really either :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by FrugalNewEnglander1 Great choice
I wanted to purchase this coat Xmas of 2014 but because it was a bit pricey I waited until after the holidays hoping to catch it on a clearance sale which never happened. I found it this fall while shopping in an LLBean outlet store and jumped at the opportunity to save 15%. It's been a pretty mild New England winter until this month so I held off on writing a review until I could truly test it in frigid weather. Well the cold has finally arrived and I couldn't be happier with my choice. This coat is amazingly comfortable on my long commute to work and feels like I'm driving with a light down comforter wrapped around me. I've spent some time walking outdoors the past few weeks in frigid wind, snow and freezing rain and cannot believe how comfortable I was with the hood on. After powering through New England winters my entire life my only regret is that I waited so long to buy this coat. I would have bought one years ago had I known what I was missing!

Rated 4 out of 5 by donna88 Warm puffy coat
I wanted to get this last year -- but it was out of stock. So glad that I got it this year. It is super warm and not as bulky as most puffy coats (it doesn't make me look too fat!) Almost totally blocks the cold air, which is what I wanted. That said, it is a little hard to zipper (double zipper and very far down since it's a "maxi" coat -- I usually just use the snaps), and it is a little hard to maneuver in since it's so long and puffy - but I guess that's the trade off for total body warmth. Very pleased!

NE winter storm approaching so VERY glad to have chosen this coat after returning another national brand coat. BECAUSE: warm and yet feels light-weight in/below teens/WChill; mid-calf with well-placed (no problems at all with) zipper, snaps - at 5'7"; knit cuffs; hood with Velcro-adjustment so I could actually see, plus Velcro-tab at neck; AND NO Velcro on front placket to destroy scarves; well-placed pockets but would prefer they be a bit longer (iPhone barely fits) and zippers on pockets - eh? - just make deeper pockets!; coat is easy on/off. Will discover snow-repellency during blizzard this weekend!? WISH LLBEAN SIZING CHART would include hips for coats as that matters; chose L and happy - roomy enough at 170lb - with room for sweater, but haven't needed heavy one yet. LOVE the coat and hope it lasts quite a few years as no negative features that bug me!

Awesome coat! I was contemplating buying the knee length version but glad I did not. The winters in Boston are cold and this alleviates my legs being cold and it blocks out the harsh winter winds. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by onlinenstoreshopper To stay warm in foul weather, get this coat!
No, this isn't the most slenderizing coat you'll ever wear, but when the wind is blasting, the snow is falling, and you're waiting outdoors for a bus, this is the coat you want to wear, not some namby-pamby, ultralight coat that makes you look good while you freeze. I have the ultralight one, too and it spent most of last winter (Boston, Jan-Feb 2015) in the closet because it wasn't warm enough.
When it finally turned cold here this winter (2016) I was grateful that I had added this coat to my collection. Yesterday morning I stood at a bus stop for 10 minutes and sat at another stop for 5 minutes with wind chill of 1-2F and was comfortable (hood up, shirt and blazer under).
If you want something other than black/brown/white, buy this coat early in the season. The alternate colors tend to sell out much sooner. I love the spruce!
Downside: What's with the pockets??? there's a small zip pocket on the right and on the left there's an accordion-style velcro flap pocket that seems to be a cell-phone-holder wanna-be...but isn't. It's too small for the larger phones of today, esp if there is any kind of case on it.
Absolutely no regrets except that I didn't by it last year instead of the ultralight coat.
