Rated 4 out of 5 by AZwhitemtns Field Coat
The coat is warm and is an excellent wind break against the northern AZ winds. The pockets are in a word " strange" they are not side entry but from above so if you put your hands in your pockets you look like you are cradling your belly. The flaps on the lower pocket are huge and serve no real purpose. The pockets do not come across as odd from the picture. If I did not need the coat, I probably would have returned it and got a different style.

My husband looked for a coat at several department stores, but could not find that just right coat. I have a friend that wears a field coat and took a chance and ordered one for my husband. It is perfect and he absolutely loves the weight and the feel. I recommend this coat (jacket) for anyone that is looking for a perfect weight but very warm!

Rated 5 out of 5 Great coat; just what I was looking for.
This is a great coat. Warm, comfortable, good fit. I only wish it had been available in tan but only green was available in my size.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BonTempsRoule Great jacket except for the pockets
Got mine last winter, this is a one year review. Love this jacket, warm enough for most days, if too cold I layer and it is fine. My only criticism are the pockets which are not very functional. I don't know if this is the original design (supposed to be a hunting jacket) but the jacket would improve if it had hand warming pockets underneath larger square pockets, and a functional chest pocket - the current one is mostly cosmetic. Inside pocket in the liner would also help.
LL Bean - please consider redesigning the pockets OR manufacturing another jacket in same material with modern pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by adamslc3 comfortable and warm
Very comfortable and keeps you nice and warm on a cold day. Also you can remove the liner for when its not so cold. Overall a very nice, comfortable, warm and versatile jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jurgen Excellent Jacket
It is a very good jacket; good cloth, great color and well made. However, it doesn't fit me well and the style is not what I thought it would be so I sent it back. I rated it as excellent. It's just not excellent for me. Since years we enjoy LLBean and it's quality. Now for the first time as far as I can remember we had to send something back. Now I greatly appreciate LLBean's return policy also.

I have two of these coats for the last 20, years, still wearing one of them and gave the older one to homeless recently. I decided to get another one in a different color from the others, hinted around and my bride got me a new one for Christmas. I had ordered a size smaller first with a different lining and realized it was too small and I still needed to get an Extra Large and liked the wool lining better. The folks at L.L. Bean took great care of me again and made the swap. Plan to wear my new coat for the first time tonight at our Church's CHRISTMAS EVE service. Merry Christmas to the folks at L.L. Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by RareRater6 What I Wanted
This coat is exactly what I wanted - plenty warmth with lots of room to reach and move. I'm 6' so I got the tall, and it was the correct choice for me. The button-out wool liner is great. It has the "old world" feel I was looking for. I rarely rate anything, but this coat is superb so I felt I should.

I bought this same jacket about twenty years ago but lost the liner. I finally got tired of waiting for the jacket to go on sale so I bought another one. The jacket is great but the changes have not been for the best... The exterior pockets are different and my Mini-iPad won't stay in the outside pockets anymore. The smaller "handwarmer pockets" barely hold my sunglasses.
Being resourceful, I have solved my problems by removing the liner from the new jacket sand buttoning it into the old, faded, and frayed jacket. Now I have a winter coat that is warm but looks like the horses used it for tug-of-war and a brand new jacket that will probably be great for late spring and early fall.
By the way, they won't sell just a liner or I would have gone in that direction.
