Rated 1 out of 5 by PatKCalifornia NOT a Barn Coat ...
What I was really looking for was an unlined or lightly lined traditional barn coat. You know ... sturdy canvas fabric, loads of deep pockets, falling to below hip level, with those neat contrasting cuffs and collars, etc. But try finding one of those! All you can find nowadays are barn coats with heavy linings, which I can only wear one or two months a year where I live in Northern California. So I gave the Freeport jacket a try, and knew immediately it was no barn coat. Way too short, not very sturdy, and with a weird styling ... the business of the back of the coat being longer than the front has never looked very attractive on me. Sigh. I sent it back. All I want is a lightly lined or unlined barn coat!! Wonder if I'll ever find one?

As a person who is often chilly and needs a light jacket, this fits the bill perfectly! The length is true to size. I ordered a 2X because I am a size 16-18 and was worried the arms may shrink in length and width. The muted blue color is a great color and a nice neutral choice. I would buy this again and recommend it to friends and family

Chicest garment I've ever purchased from LLBean! It *is* what I would call a "shirt jacket". Unlined, only a bit heavier than a sturdy shirt. It's what you would wear over a tee shirt or tank top or spring/summer dress. The double stitching shapes the shoulder area beautifully. The hardware is neither too lightweight (cheap looking) or way too heavy for the garment. And it's not sparkling gold, thankfully. The stone color is gorgeous but less on the grey end and more on the cream end. I'm 5"5" and it hits the very top of my thigh (perfect!) -- this blond model they use is beautiful but she is very tall and the garment is a bit longer and has more movement than it appears in the photos. True, as was mentioned -- the collar is a slight downfall as it's just cut too wide but this is a common problem these days with S/M/L sizing. Collars look sloppy on everything now in my view. This looks best when not sized up to accommodate more than a shirt or turtleneck underneath since it's cut like a shirt around the shoulders. I bought a medium (5'6', 130) so it would be roomy but it's not cut for that. I'm exchanging for a small or even xs. By the way the pockets are too small to be of much use other than for a couple of credit cards and keys. Normally that would really annoy me but this jacket is so very chic and the pockets are so well proportioned for the look -- who cares. Not a practical "jacket" but a very chic shirt jacket to make a plain outfit look polished for shopping or dining and to protect against freezing air conditioning during summer. As for ironing -- personally I like this sort of garment slightly rumpled and the seams puckered slightly -- that's the nature of the style!

Good spring/summer jacket. Love all the pockets. Just enough weight to tame breezes, but not wintry heavy. Works well for those of us who are always cold.

Rated 1 out of 5 by marylandcrab Puny zippered jacket
I returned this jacket because it's zipper was impossible for me to open or close. It was just puny, not strong or large enough for a jacket. I wish I could have kept it because it was perfect in other ways. I would not recommend it.

Contrary to many reviewers, I was quite happy with the weight of this jacket. My problem was with the sizing. After measuring my arm length according to the chart, I am a regular rather than a petite. I am 5'3" and weight 108. The XS was huge on me, with the arms extending to the middle of my hand, and the overall girth of the jacket and sleeves was voluminous. It had to go back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Adotingnana Great color, Poor Quality
Very disappointed in the quality of this Field Jacket. The material was very thin, more like a canvas shirt than a jacket. There was no lining so it was difficult to put on and the fit was tighter than what I would expect from a 1X size garment. I also found it to be a bit short-waisted on me. The jacket was not worth the price and I'm returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AriaZ Perfect for everyday
I love to throw this jacket on with leggings and a tank to run the kids to school, shop or walk as it covers most of my behind and dresses up my "yoga wear" looking wardrobe without being bulky. The pockets are very useful and I don't need to bring extra baggage on walks. I even layered this with a hoodie and wore it for most of the Michigan winter.
Also, you can adjust the waist, so no matter what you are wearing this never gets the frumpy or lumpy look.
I wash and dry it biweekly in the regular washer and dryer--if I grab it right away the wrinkles are gone upon hang up.
Scarves work great with this, as do any hooded layering piece.
I am buying a second.

I opened the package and immediately regretted not listening to other reviewers. This jacket looks nice but it's just like a shirt. I also don't know how it would hold up to laundering...I worry it would be a wrinkled mess and need ironing though in all fairness, this is just my feeling about the material. I am returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RebeccainBoston Very stylish!
I read some reviews just after ordering this and thought I would send it back. So many people said it was so lightweight that you could see through it and it was more of a shirt then a jacket. Well, thankfully, I completely disagree! Yes this is a light jacket - perfect for 55-70 degree weather. But it's not see through or like a shirt in my opinion. It feels like a jacket to me, but with a softer fabric than most jackets. Also, it's SO STYLISH! I admittedly am terrible at shopping for stylish clothing. But when I put this on over a t-shirt, with a pair of jeans, I feel ridiculously awesome. I got the stone color - great for spring.
I'm 5'4" and 140lbs - the small fits over a t-shirt perfectly. If you want it to fit over a sweater, you should probably order up.
