Rated 1 out of 5 by MichiganMatt Waterproof or not
This would be a great rain jacket; if only it was waterproof. I took the Discovery Rain Jacket backpacking on the Michigan Manistee River Trail. I wore it for a half a day in the rain; the jacket only seemed to repel water for minutes until water soaked through to my shirt. I have had a lot of LL Bean products over the years; this is the first one I was extremely disappointed with. This jacket should be discontinued and reengineered to meet Bean standards.

Rated 2 out of 5 by longtimecustomeralso Good enough but sizes run small
Quality is fair. It is was not a high priced product and seems about what I would expect from a discount store. The size is smaller than the standard that I have been used to from LL Bean. I had to return the medium for a large. The LL Bean coat that this one replaced was a medium and still fits. (It's not me growing that made the new one too small).

Good quality, works well. I'm 6' 2", 240 lbs - the XL Tall fits perfect - slightly loose, and the bottom of the jacket falls about two inches below my wrists when I'm standing with my arms down to my sides. (Wish it had an interior pocket).

Rated 4 out of 5 The old one was better, this new version is OK
I had one of these for ten years or so, the zipper went on it, something that happened to me on two llbean coats in one year, but they were over ten years old. I love their men's jackets and coats because they come in tall sizes, if you are over 6 ft, you know from what I speak. However, this one is shorter than the old one, by two inches. I still recommend it, I where it all the time, I like that it's excellent for warm days when it's raining. I have a hard shell for colder days. This coat with a fleece jacket under it is fine form most ever day with weather. And if it's raining it will keep you warm. When it gets under 20 or so and with strong wind, it will give in to the cold wind. I like the pockets as well. We have several of them, one for each in our family. The price seems high, but if you check around it's right in line with other soft shells.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ThatAnonymousGuy Excellent Waterproof Rain Jacket!
My wife got me one of these for Father's Day, and I absolutely love it. The XXL tall had plenty of room in the sleeves and waist. I've been through several wet and awful days camping and watching sports and outdoor concerts, and the thing has held up like a champ. The gold color is very bright and makes it easy for people to find you so you don't get separated at an event. I would definitely buy another.

by UPCDAZEY Worked great in Ireland and UK
Note- ours were red and black. not sure why it says camo. I bought my husband and I this jacket for our trip to Ireland and UK this July. We wanted light weight and good rain protection. We got that! The coat handled the misty drizzle of Irelnd and downpours in the UK. It never soaked through. We would wad them up in our backpacks and pull them out when needed. Perfect coat for traveling.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HenryN Adequate but not much better
I found the material to be not very breathable in hot weather with only an inner mesh lining to shield me from the somewhat uncomfortable material of the rain jacket.
I have received some free rain jackets as a bonus gift for some magazine subscriptions and I did not find this one much better, just somewhat heavier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stacy412 Exactly what I wanted
This is a perfect jacket for rainy spring days. I bought it to wear to work because the jacket keeps you dry in downpours and the hood obviates the need for an umbrella. It's lightweight with some wind resistance, and has two zippered side pockets that come in handy. Elastic on the sides of the hood prevents it from blowing off your head in the wind, and an abbreviated visor keeps the rain out of your eyes. There's a subtle same-color L L Bean logo embroidered on the left breast. I'd say the jacket runs true to size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by freebieandthebean Nice but flawed
I'm returning this jacket because of too many flaws in design: Not enough pockets (no chest, nothing inside), not being able to fold the hood away, a little too short, billowy around the body instead of resting against it, etc.
That said, I really did like the lightweight of it, the apparent well-made quality of it, and it really did seem waterproof. I tested it under a running shower against a few other waterproof jackets, and none were as good as this one. So I kind to hate to see it go.
So if you don't mind the flaws and lack of frills, you should be pretty happy, and dry, with this jacket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Nickname1 It's a start but Bean can do better
First want I liked: Alpine gold and mountain red colors. Full mesh liner. Tail length was about right for a rain jacket.
Jacket needs: Breast pockets. Not the dinky type which only fits a cell phone, but a wide deep pocket that will hold stuff that you must carry with you. Zipper flap with velcro or snaps. Collar so hood can be stow-able the 95% of the time you don't need it, so it stays out of the way. Velcro on cuffs.
Jacket is only good for light rain. Probably okay if you need a jacket to protect you in light rain, but not for heavier rain or no/slight chance of rain in forecast. Wouldn't want the hood always getting in the way.
Bean is finally headed in the right direction in creating a light weight jacket for the warmer climates, but the jacket needs improvements listed above.
Jacket will be returned.
