Rated 3 out of 5 by exMainiac Not right for hip replacement person
The shoes are attractive, well-made and affordable, but the "adjustments" Merrell has added, for the different build women have, only served to make my hip surgery feel like it was being adversely affected. The shoes purport to angle a woman's stride to reflect the angle of hip to knee to ankle, thus making walking more balanced. This design did not work for me, and I would not recommend these shoes to anyone with back or hip or knee problems, without their seeing an orthopedist first.

These boots fit well with normal socks and gave me good traction on snowy ground. I'm glad I bought them.

by FlyCatcher1 No clunky boot look!
I needed waterproof shoes to wear to work since I walk between buildings quite a bit (and it rains A LOT in FL), and didn't like the clunky look of most other hiking shoes. These are great for being on your feet most of the day, and don't have the hiking boot look. I didn't need to break them in at all, as they were perfectly comfortable straight out of the box. I have not tried hiking in them yet, so I can't comment on their sturdiness, but for basic everyday wear - great!

Material too stiff...hurt my heels and feet to wear. Gave them a try for 2 wks. Gave to friend and she said same thing. We are both avid walkers. Finally, gave them to goodwill. Would never recommend shoes!

My new boots arrived 2 days ago. I have had them on twice now. They are stiff out of the box, but are gradually breaking in. My regular hiking boots are merrells, too, so I knew I would like these. I do go up 1/2 size on all hiking shoes. They fit wonderfully and will get many more years of use. My old ones were worn for at least 8 yrs and still are in good shape, but my feet have gotten longer. Thank you Bean for carrying these hikers.

These are a nice sturdy shoe. Great for around town in inclement weather ie. snow/ice which is seemingly 6 months of the year in my neck of the woods! I am still breaking them in after about two weeks of regular wear-they are stiff and sturdy-which is a good thing in the long run. I found they do run slightly small-I ALMOST bought size 9 rather than size 8.5. I am normally an 8.5, and the fit was just right. snug, but not too snug. My only slight complaint so far is that the tongue is too bulky at the top and rubs against my foot/leg, but again, I just may need to break them in more. They feel like they'll last forever with moderate wear!

Shoe looks great; however it is a little narrow at the top. Still breaking it in. It is very comfy, and I would buy again. Price was good.

I have been wearing Merrell footwear for a good 10 years now and will continue to do so. They remain the most comfortable, sturdy brand of shoes in my closet. This particular style is just as comfortable as all the other styles I have had through the years, and they are waterproof. And buying is made super simple when you purchase from LL Bean with there free shipping and quick and simple exchange and return policy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MaineCampMom3 Very Good Shoe - Slightly Rigid but Waterproof
I bought these shoes primarily because they seemed to be the least "clunky" of the waterproof shoe options that were lace-ups. They seem to run a bit small, so while I usually wear a 7, I will have to exchange these for a 7.5. They are very stiff and rigid shoes, so not nearly as comfortable as I had expected for Merrell. I love the look of them and they are waterproof and sturdy - just don't expect a tennis shoe feel in any way. I think the 7.5 might make a difference once I get them, but for now I'd have to give the shoe a 3 for comfort and 4 for overall value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ImDowntown A nice hiking shoe
I have enjoyed these shoes, but they are a bit stiff out of the box and require some wearing in order to break them in. I usually wear a size 9 1/2, but ordered a size 10. The size 10 was a little snug initially, but with wear, they have stretched and are now comfortable. They are well-constructed with nice soles that make them ideal for hiking on trails.
