Very painful shoe, way to stiff my foot was bleeding after a 5 hour walk with them. It felt more like a surgical boot then a shoe. I do not recommend these at all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Wiscogal Good looking shoe.
While the shoe is good looking and well made, I have returned it unfortunately because it just didn't feel good on my feet. I tried 2 sizes and neither one was comfortable. The shoe is probably just fine, but I need something that feels good as I will be wearing it for a long hiking trip.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Maggie0623 Too small. Love Merrells.
I purchased these hiking boots along with the Ascender Gore-Tex. I have purchased Merrells in the past & have never had an issue with the fit, unfortunately these in a size 9 are too small and too narrow. The Ascenders fit and are very comfortable. I look forward to using them on our upcoming trip to Glacier National Park. I will be returning the Merrells for refund.

Rated 4 out of 5 by OutdoorsAllDay Excellent in many ways but...
The most important advice I can give re this shoe is to order at least a half size up, if not a whole size. I followed the advice of reviewers when I made my order and went from my normal size 9 to a 9 1/2. It was too short. I exchanged them for a 10 which was perfect. Held sole to sole with one of my (size 9) running shoes, they looked the same. I normally take a medium width, and I had no problem with medium in any of the pairs I tried. I give them four stars because they are very comfortable to walk in, but I almost gave them three because it took some breaking in before the outside edges didn't gouge the underside of my ankles. (I had a friend who solved this kind of problem by adding insoles.) And as to the waterproof quality, it's odd - I stepped accidentally into a puddle that covered the top of the shoe - and my foot stayed dry, but a couple of minutes of walking in wet grass soaks my toes - every time. I'm keeping them because they are very comfortable, I like the subtle coloring and because I've gotten used to, or broken in the shoes to solve, the gouged-ankle problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GrannyHikerOne Comfortable, good grip on trails, breathe well!
I liked these shoes so much that this is my second pair! I wear them all year round as my every day shoe, not just for hiking. I am grateful that the sizing runs on the small size because my feet are a size 5 1/2, and it is so difficult to find a shoe that actually fits.

Rated 2 out of 5 by 1000shoes waterproof? where?
Wearing the Merrell Siren Sport 2 Waterproof Hiker my feet stay comfortably wet every morning I wear them. In north Mississippi the dew is heavy nine months out of the year, so I can look forward to wet feet from now until late October. I remove them immediately after walking, remove the insole and place them to dry. After just nine hours (nine mornings) of wear they began to have a strange acrid smell.
I ordered them because they were described as "waterproof" It is true that the synthetic leather stays dry everything else holds water like a sponge. Some mornings they still have not dried from the previous morning. I realize that if I continue placing them in the sun to dry the fiber will break down prematurely.
This shoe fails to do what I need it to do.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JustAnotherReviewer Very narrow with extremely firm soles
If your feet are even just a bit on the wide side I would not recommend purchasing these particular shoes. They are very narrow. Also the sole if very firm and does not flex easily. I've only worn mine for about 5 hours, so I'm not sure if they will 'give' any as time goes by. Other than that the shoes appear to be well constructed.

My last pair of Merrell Sirens were an 8, so that is what I ordered. Had to trade them in for an 81/2. Once I did that, though, I put them on and took a 3 mile walk over wet, rooty and rocky terrain. They were comfy from the start and stayed dry the entire 3 miles. Love Merrells. I have a wide forefoot but a narrow heel and Merrell always fits me comfortably and they hold up well to my hard use.

After reading the other reviews, I ordered a half size up from normal. I would have ordered a wide width, unfortunately that option does not exist. The shoe was uncomfortably small both in length and width with just a thin dress sock, and I could not possibly have gotten a mid weight hiking sock on. I sent them back.

I love the style. Very sturdy with an excellent tread. As stated before though, definitely order a half-size up. I normally wear a size 7 and my toes were touching the end of the shoe and they were uncomfortably tight width-wise. A 71/2 was perfect.
