Rated 5 out of 5áby Downtown35 Fantastic Set
I love this fishing set. Both the spinning and fly fishing sets are great quality and it's so handy to be able to carry both in one convenient compact case. I had an issue with the spring on the fly reel and LL Bean replaced the entire set for me - fabulous customer service as always. Highly recommend this set for yourself or as a gift for the fisher-person in your life.

I purchased this combo outfit last month. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the outfit. When I opened the included fly box, I was floored. The fly box included threaders (like a needle threaders) to type on my flies. I'm pushing my seventh decade and the designer's forethought with knowing we start having trouble seeing to tie the fly on is without equal! Beyond that, the first time out, I tied on a Copper John nymph on the 5 weight fly line, and hooked four fish. Didn't land any cause as a noob, I didn't set the hook correctly (I crush the barbs). Then I tried out the spinning rod. I tied on a Mepps No. 3, 1/12 oz spinner and made a cast. I immediately hooked and landed a 14" pickerel.
Although it's illogical, I believe my luck is because of the quality of the outfit. I've caught more fish with this outfit than I have in the past 35 years.
Get this kit if you want a convenient way to fish (I put the box in the panniers of my bike, and rode 8 miles to my fishing spot).
I gave this four stars only because there is too much backing or flyline on the reel and the leader-to-flyline nail knot gets stuck under the bar of the reel. I'll have to strip off about 15-20 yards of backing to get the correct depth.

Really pleased with the price and performance- caught fish on each rig the first time out- I use to backpack to remote ponds in Maine and it fits well in my pack and each casts well,

While I have not tried out the fly rod yet, the spinning gear has brought in about 18 bass, biggest being 13-14 inches. I think the rod could easily stand up to a 2 - 3 pound bass without much concern, anything bigger would test my skills. I have always primarily used light to ultralight gear for bass fishing and this rod is as good or better than my one piece rods. The reel is good as well, equivalent to the other gear I use regularly. The case is light and sturdy, making it really portable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good travel set. The line on the reel did take about 15 minutes to lose its memory effectively, and in the process I got a knot that cost me about 20 feet of line, but it still casts quite well, so no complaints. Definitely not enough of an issue that I will go out and buy new line for it. Though I expect a good low memory line would get me bit more casting distance.

The case could use a stronger top/cover as that's the only part I'm worried about. The rest of the case and rods are very nice. The case will fit into an HD saddle bag. The size and weight make it very convenient to carry in a pack or by hand to fishing holes. Already got a good half dozen trout with this kit and looking forward to many more.

This is a very compact Spin/Fly Combo. I can throw this in the back and be ready for all kinds of fishing conditions, as long as it is light. I was rather surprised at the lightness of this outfit. When I buy LL Bean I expect heavy duty equipment, but this is surprisingly light weight. Should be loads of fun to chase freshwater bass.

Rated 3 out of 5áby TwoEars Good combo deal...
Good deal for the price. I have used both with the fly rod as well as the spimnning rod. The rods are quite good for a combo kit. The reels on the other hand are quite basic. The fly reel has sharp edges which in line retrieval has the real/potential problem of making small cuts in the line. Overall, they both meet the needs of an angler who keeps their rod/s in their car for the chance opportunity to fish a stream they come across. The case is quite convenient....

Great quality as is usually the case with L.L.Bean . Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to actually use it yet do to weather conditions in the northeast. My only problem is that two weeks after I purchased this item, it was on sale at 20% less than what I paid for it. Wish I had known.
