áby Canuck1965 Six years old!
I bought this jacket six years ago and it's an ideal jacket for traveling. Absolutely waterproof as I learned in central Europe where it rained for 8 days straight. With a fleece under it, it's very warm as I learned on a whale watching cruise in Iceland and it's windproof as I learned on a sightseeing cruise on the Beagle Channel. Stuffs away easy and with the fleece underneath, it's unbeatable down to -5C no problem.

Looking for a light, sturdy, wind- and water-proof jacket to wear around our small dairy-goat farm. Wanted a three-season jacket; this jacket met all the criteria. Wore it to work, to hunt, to town. Just throw it in the washer and dryer. Like new again.
Liked it so much, bought one for my wife and my two oldest sons. Pricey (went up since I bought mine about two years ago) but you get what you pay for ... Except politically.

Rated 2 out of 5áby BillVA Stowaway Jacket
Bought the jacket in Oct. 2014. Have had trouble with the zipper system on several occasions. . This a.m. I was wearing the jacket and got caught in an unexpected heavy rain. The zipper jammed on the fabric and by the time I got the zipper unjammed, I was soaked. The zipper jammed again when I tried to unzip the jacket after I got home.

I have had this Gore-Tex rain coat a few years and love it. It is by far the best functioning and fitting rain coat I have every had. During torrential rain fall like in Cape Cod off season it keeps me dry.

Rated 1 out of 5áby TravelClock Stowaway Gore-Tex Rain Jacket Needs Improvements
I wrote a negative review of the Stowaway Rain Jacket with Gore-Tex in September 2014 noting several material and design problems. I reordered this jacket in March 2015 to see if any of the suggestions were implemented in the current model. Unfortunately, they were not so I am returning the rain jacket. L.L. Bean has not changed the main features of this model for over four years. When will L.L. Bean start listening to its customers and implementing the changes that customers are requesting in their reviews of this product?
I do not like the following design and material features of the rain jacket.
1. The front zipper placket is not firm. Consequently the zipper gets caught in the material behind the zipper when zipping it up especially near the neck where the material bends.
2. The velcro closures are too small/narrow and difficult to find and match up.
3. The slide closures on the hood do not hold their positions. The push-button type used previously held their position.
4. The vertical opening of the inside pocket is not easy to access compared to the horizontal opening that was used previously.
5. More storage pockets need to be added on the inside or outside.
An L.L. Bean product that is well designed with a firm front zipper placket, large velcro closures, push-button type closures for the hood that keep their position, and several storage pockets is the Rugged Ridge Parka, TA290708.
When will a new model be available that has these design and material features as well as those noted in other reviews?

Rated 4 out of 5áby Lilyfish Pocket opening?
I bought this jacket to replace one that was 15+ years old. Overall the jacket fits well and is waterproof. It works well over layers but for some reason they changed the direction of the pocket openings. The inside pocket and outer pockets had openings that were parallel to the ground. NOW the inside is perpendicular which makes the liner fall out and anything you put inside must be zipped. The outside are slash type openings and also need attention to what you put inside. A jacket as serviceable as this one is designed to be; should not have pocket openings you must do diligence when you are stowing items. Especially so when you are engaged in an outdoor activity and dealing with weather or other challenging conditions.

Love this jacket and bought my kids one too. I bought mine 20 years ago. I have used it in extreme weather - minus 20 degrees. This is my go to jacket when it is raining or looks like rain. Keep it in may car all the time. I bought it one size up and use it as the outer layer with a sweatshirt or insulted jacket underneath if needed. I bought red because for visibility in bad weather or night. Wish they made one in blaze orange.

Rated 4 out of 5áby OklahomaExplorer My third Stowaway Jacket
I have been wearing a Stowaway Jacket for years. They do the job keeping you warm and dry. I notice over the years that the jacket has got a bit shorter and the jackets no longer have snaps on them. I liked the snaps. The placement of the velcro now tends to get caught on things like sweaters, mittens and scarves and will not let go easily. Also if the zipper fails, the snaps can close the gap better than the velcro. If one is hiking in the wilderness, this could be important. But I am too old for wilderness hiking now, so it doesn't matter so much.

Rated 1 out of 5 poor zipper design
My family has been customers of LL Bean since I was a child in the 1950'sand we have gotten many good durable items from them ever the years. However, the Gore-Tex jacket is not one of them. Before ordering the jacket, I read several reviews which complained about problems with the zipper but, because of the 100% satisfaction guarantee policy, I bought the jacket anyway. On the first three pulls the zipper jammed and I immediately sent the jacket back for full refund. I suggest that LL Bean either correct this known flaw or discontinue the jacket. I would hope that they are paying attention to customers' problems.

Rated 2 out of 5áby JerZBeaner Great jacket! FIX THE ZIPPER, PLEASE!
I have bought plenty of LL Bean products over the years, and this is my third Stowaway. I love the way it fits, looks and protects against the elements. But the new zippers - up the front, and on all three pockets - are impossible to use without some considerable degree of effort with both hands. It seems the zipper teeth get caught on the material so I am always struggling to open and close the darn things. While I am a big fan of the Stowaway, I would not recommend spending $200 for this product until the zipper is fixed.
