This is the second Barn Coat that I ordered for my wife. She normally wears a Small Petite. She is 5' tall 115 lbs. I ordered this coat as a Christmas gift last fall. It was huge! I returned it to get a XS Petite. Unfortunately, they were out of stock. Now that they are available again, I ordered the XS Petite without telling her. It is too big! I realize that it is not a fitted garment, but Holly Cow! You sure would think that a XS Petite would not be so bulky and the arms so long. Otherwise it is a very well made coat that my wife would have liked for winter walks with our dog. We will be returning it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Seattlejanie perfect now after alteration
I loved the way this jacket felt, but as previously reviewed it was crazy big & even lost warmth because no ability to insulate it was so far out from my torso.
I took it to a seamstress who does great work, for $30 she took in both sides a couple inches. It now fits in a flattering way & is very warm. Still plenty roomy. I know I would have preferred to not have the expense, but to me it was worth it. I loved the color, and the feel of the jacket. I hate slippery coats, this coat felt like a dream and now it looks perfect. Happy with it, a star knocked off still because it could have been made this way to begin with.

I very much wanted to like this coat. Upon reading the many reviews about the size and the need to size down, I tried for a Petite M instead of a Misses Medium (my usual size). Even so, the jacket was much much too boxy. Husband's coat? I looked like a flying squirrel. I would really recommend redesigning this jacket so that there's a way to cinch it in (drawstring inside? belt on outside ?) so as to discourage such an unflattering silhouette.
It had to go back. Sorry LL Bean, wanted to love it, but couldn't abide how I looked in it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by expatArg Great jacket needs a few adjustments
I purchased this jacket for when I am on our farm with my dogs. It is warm, sturdy, and easy to clean/brush off the dirt from my jumping dogs. The jacket definitely serves it purpose. I would recommend it.
However I would suggest just two things...
I purchased a XS. I'm about 100 lbs and 5'4". I usually order XS and size 2. This jacket is very large even if I was to put on a heavy sweater under it. The size makes the jacket very boxy. I almost look like I'm wearing my husband's jacket. My husband actually purchased a barn jacket too. His has shape and tailoring. Mine does not.
The other very important tweak is it really needs at least one inside pocket. The pockets on the outside to me at least are not safe enough for my phone. Plus I have a larger smart phone which doesn't really fit in the front pockets.
If the jacket had an inside pocket and a bit more tailoring, it would be perfect

Really nice coat, well made, but just fits ginormous. I ordered XS based on the reviews for fit. I am around #130, 5'4" and often wear a size 8 in the signature dresses. On this coat, the sleeves are fine for length rolled at the cuff so the contrasting corduroy shows, the shoulders fit well, but the torso - I could fit 3 of me in this thing. I don't want a skin tight coat but this thing bunches & folds out a foot behind me - I could be hugely pregnant in this coat and it would work fine.
There needs to be some darts put in, and less fabric in the torso. Or market it as a maternity coat! The hand warmer pockets don't help the fit - they add to the bulkiness of the torso & remind me of a kangaroo pouch.
I am stymied on the "would you recommend this?" question. It's a nice coat, it's warm, but the fit.....I may take it in to a seamstress to see if it can be taken in. I waited so long for this coat. Boo and Hoo.

I ordered a Medium (5'7", 150#), following earlier comments that the coat runs large. The body fit ok, but the sleeves were too short. I planned to wear this for outdoor chores and barn work. Hate feeling constrained in my arms, so I sent this coat back. Bought in its place
Bean's Men's Pine Ridge Jacket. Sleeve length just right!

Loved the jacket on line but saw some reviews about it running large. So I ordered xs (usually wear a small). When it arrived it was huge. So disappointed that I had to send it back and there isn't a smaller size. Would recommend if you can manage through the size problems.

I was hoping that this would be my go-to Fall and Spring coat, to replace a quilted version from LL Bean that I have had for over 10 years and is still wearable (though the black color has faded and it has lost it's quilted loftiness). This barn coat was heavy and incredibly stiff. Proportions were wrong, even in the size I usually get from LL Bean. Body and arms too long. I can't imagine in what weather one would wear it -- too warm for Spring and Summer, not warm enough for Winter, Fall. The only good thing I can say about it was that the color was nice ... but even that was not completely as expected. It was much brighter than I would have preferred. Very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by kookui Warm and lots of pockets
The Barn Coat I purchased is the second one I own. I bought the first one three years ago but it was the unlined item. It has served me so well that I bought this one for winter wear. It is warm in below freezing temperatures and has four pockets which serve me well as I never carry a purse. Two pockets are deep enough to hold an iPhone 6 plus along with a wallet, tissues, etc. I am very happy with both coats...one for spring and autumn and this new one for winter.

LOVE this jacket. Warmest coat I have, This was a replacement of one which was worn out. Runs a little large, had to replace with a smaller size.
