Rated 5 out of 5 by NOTyouravgLLBeangirl I beat it up and it still keeps ticking
I am a bedside nurse. This watch is my work watch. I have owned this watch for 5 years. It has been banged into doors, beds, walls, etc. It has been covered in a lot of gross stuff. I wash up to the elbows constantly. The face has never fogged up.
I am sending it back to LL Bean just to have the face buffed and polished. I am going to miss it terribly during the maintenance.
If you have an active lifestyle or just expect it to be banged up -- THIS IS THE WATCH FOR YOU.

Rated 5 out of 5 by joeybob Couldn't be happier
Bought this watch 2 weeks ago. For years I have wanted a "traser" watch. After looking at this watch I was very torn as to which way to go, llbean or the "traser" I have wanted so long. Because of ll beans customer service I decided to give this watch a try with the intent that if I wasn't 100% satisfied after a month I would send it back and get a "traser." Guess who's not getting a "traser" watch! What makes this watch great?
1. Illumination is great. More than bright enough to see but not so much as to be distracting. (But as others have said the numbers are not illuminated like the pictures.)
2. Watch face. Very readable and the perfect size for my wrist(43mm). I'm 5'11" 170lbs
3. Strap. Not cheap. Solid, rugged and comfortable but not quite as "rubberized" as the "traser" while much nicer than say a g-shock.
4. Looks. The pictures on ll bean site don't do it justice. Great looking watch. Tough and rugged looking without being in your face military style. At home in any tactical environment but also looks nice with jeans and a button down. I wear mine with a suit to church. Also, thankfully the ll bean branding on the face is not as big/noticeable as it seemed in the pics
5. Toughness. Well it's too early to say but I'm rough on a watch. I'm a landscaper and I also hunt very hard rough terrain. So far so good. No scratches on the crystal. The watch seems very substantial but not heavy. Much more solid feel/construction than a basic luminox colormark. I would compare it more to the luminox 4200 "ANU" watches which go for around $695. No issues hunting in the rain or running it under the sink to clean mud and dirt off. I should add it has already been dropped multiple times off my night stand with no issues.
6. Time. I set the watch to official time. After 2 weeks it has not lost or gained even a fraction of a second!
The only possible issue (and it can't really be called an issue) is that there is the slightest play in the bezel. Slight, as in not even noticeable except to people with the most extreme OCD. Bezel is steel and numbers are engraved not painted on only.
All in all a great watch. I will update on toughness in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jalepeno So Far, So Good
This review is after using the watch for two weeks.
If I remember, I'll come back and edit after a year.
Keeps accurate time.
Good size- not huge, not small.
Feels comfortable on my wrist.
Bezel clicks positively and moves only one direction as it should.
Easy to adjust time with screw down crown when traveling.
The best quality by far is being able to see the time in the dark.
And I can see it at 3 in the morning when the watch has been in the dark all night as well as ten minutes after I leave the light.

by Stumper Nice Looking Rugged Sport Watch
I purchased this watch after returning the 42mm Vintage Field Watch because the face was too large for my wrist. Although the Self Illuminating Sport Watch was quite a bit more money, I liked the looks of it better. In person it was more substantial & nicer looking than it appeared online.
The face of the watch is plenty big and it has a masculine rugged look to it. The band is comfortable, it's not rigid & hard like the bands on other sport and diving watches.
The illuminating feature works great & is easy to see; however it doesn't appear as the photo online depicts. The numbers are not visible only illuminated dots appear where the numbers are located.

Not a good watch over the long term. After replacing the battery after the first one died, the watch continuously malfunctioned. In a 24 hour period it would lose 40-60 minutes. This watch, at
$289, is not a good value--basically a $289 battery that has to be replaced with a new watch after a couple of years. I am deeply disappointed as I have been a very loyal Bean customer for very many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ArtVandalay Watch looks great
I got tired of cheap watches that last only so long so I researched and purchased this one from LL Bean and it looks like I made a great choice. It's exactly what I was looking for.
I've purchased many items from LL Bean in the past and I keep going back because of their EXCELLENT service and OUTSTANDING return policy.
I ordered this watch on Saturday and I put it on my wrist around noon on Monday. How can anyone beat that?
Thank you LLBean.
You do it right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jrp777 Great, Solid Sport Watch
I debated about this purchase for quite a while and finally pulled the trigger....I'm glad I did. The watch is excellent. Best illumination I've seen. (Who really needs the numbers to light up. In a dark room, the notches and hands are quite enough.) I've had it in the pool, on the beach, in the ocean and in the shower with no problem. Yes, a metal band would be nicer, but that's changeable. If it stays this way and continues to keep good time, I'll be more than satisfied....and if not, it's good to know LL Bean always stands behind their products.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DougN Not as advertised
Purchased this watch for personal use. It is well built but heavy. LLB website information on this watch is incorrect. Website photo shows that numerals (1-12) are illuminated in the dark, however, the numerals do not illuminate, only the small dots, and the hour, minute, and second hands illuminate. Additionally, the website says the watch is water resistant to 330 feet but the actual watch says water resistant (in two places) to 660 feet. I contacted customer service about these discrepancies and they agreed the numerals should illuminate. They sent me a 2nd watch to replace the first one. When it came it was exactly like the 1st watch. LLB needs to either ship the watch as advertised or correct the errors in the website description.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SARTech A must have for SAR/ Field EMTs
Great visibility at night under marginal conditions. I purchased this watch to replace LLBeans field watch that I returned because I couldnt see the hands well enough in the backcountry. It's been slammed around since I've had it and shows no signs of giving up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by chitowndds Very good watch
I ordered the Sport Watch after reading some of the reviews and I must say I have been pleased. The face is a nice size as my middle-aged eyes can easily read it in the light or dark. The illumination is the best I have ever had in a watch. The only downside is that the strap can trap moisture, but it's rubber so that's to be expected. The rubber also gives it water resistance. Overall, I am very pleased with this watch on every level.
