I took a Fly fishing class at LL Bean in Freeport ME. I love it. I bought my self a fly rod and some other gear I would need. After a long winter I wanted to go fly fishing, but couldn't remember all that I was taught. I got out the handy Fly fishing handbook and started reading. It all came back to me. Now I am enjoying some fly fishing.
Great illustrations and very informative.

After many years of not fly-fishing, I decided that if I wanted to get back to a level of enjoyment that I had experienced as a youth I needed some help. The minute I saw this book and who the author was I knew that this book would be all that I needed to brush up and get back to a reasonable level of ability. I had a chance years ago to attend a short seminar put on by the author Dave Whitlock . He was informative and helpful while talking to you in a language the average fisherman could understand. This book is no different. I would highly recommend this book to beginners and novice level fishermen alike.

Dave Whitlock knows fly fishing up, down. front, and back. As an introduction to the sport, the book is somewhat daunting in its complexity but all the information is there and it stands tall as a reference to, even the most seasoned angler. Beautifully illustrated by the multi-talented author, it is a pleasure just to look upon. That being said, It tells you Dave's way of doing everything and hardly ever mentions that there are other knots and other techniques that are not to be ignored.
A great value at an excellent price and belongs in every fly fisherman's library

This was recommended to me by a sales rep when I first purchased fly fishing equipment at the Bean Freeport store almost two years ago. He said this was the book to have, and he was right. From casting techniques to knots to flies for different fish species to safety, this book covers the need-to-know stuff of fly fishing. I take it with me on fishing trips because it provides great advice on all aspects. If you haven't read a fly fishing book, this is the one to get.

Great pictures, index, and it is written for the newbie (me) and for those that need to brush up on what they had forgotten. Well written and helpful.
If you have been fly fishing for a long time, then probably you already own this book.

From beginner to advanced -- this handbook has something for everyone. From knots, to insect entymology, to fly tying - to casting lessons covering a dozen styles of tosses -- this is a good book.
Attractively illustrated with high quality photography, a handbook that has everything -- even a page that helps the beginning angler identify the size of his fly hooks.
Great for holiday and birthday gifts for any fly fisherman.
