For the first time is its 109 year history, L.L.Bean is opening the doors to its vintage closet and launching its first-ever online sale of vintage apparel – The L.L.Bean Pre-Loved Collection.

The collection is comprised of one-of-a-kind heritage garments from the 1960s to now, launching in three installments on Oct. 13, 20 and 27, only on Instagram. The collection marks the first time L.L.Bean has sourced, refurbished and resold vintage apparel, all of which was hand-selected by the company’s design team.

The meticulous sourcing process was one that L.L.Bean designers have embarked on for many years – traversing vintage fairs and flea markets from coast to coast – as part of the outdoor company’s commitment to look to its deep history for inspiration.

The online collection features 28 garments spanning heavy outerwear, fleece, flannel, chamois, knitwear, anoraks, vests and more, available in men’s, women’s and unisex sizing.

To bring the collection to life, L.L.Bean partnered with Denver-based Tersus Solutions to take each piece of the collection through a rigorous refurbishing process before it was retagged as an L.L.Bean Pre-Loved garment. The process from sourcing to collection launch has been years in the making.

“L.L.Bean has always operated with durability and quality as the benchmark for everything we make,” said Meghan Newton, one of the L.L.Bean designers responsible for hand-selecting apparel for the Pre-Loved Collection. “Not only does this collection feature beautiful and rare L.L.Bean apparel that dates back 50 years, it is also an important step in our commitment to extending the lifecycle of our apparel for years to come.”

The L.L.Bean Pre-Loved sale goes live on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 20 and 27 at 10 a.m. ET, only on @llbean Instagram Stories.
