L.L.Bean Celebrates Opening of its First Utah Store in Park City

L.L.Bean’s westernmost store will offer a distinctive, smaller format designed specifically with the Park City area and its residents in mind

Freeport, ME, October 22, 2018 – L.L.Bean today announced the opening of its westernmost and first Utah store in Park City, located in the new retail development at the corner of Main Street and Heber Avenue.

L.L.Bean’s new 6,300 square-foot store is unique from its other stores in that the smaller, more intimate footprint highlights a carefully curated assortment of L.L.Bean’s most innovative, active outdoor lifestyle gear and apparel. The selection is geared specifically for residents and visitors of the Park City area and the outdoor activities that abound here and throughout Utah, such as winter sports, hiking and camping. The store serves as a community outdoor resource for high-quality gear and apparel, as well as technical expertise and local knowledge, and will employ 15 people.

L.L.Bean made the decision to open a store in Park City due to the area’s proximity to abundant natural resources and opportunities for outdoor activities, as well as a population that reveres the natural world and enjoys regularly engaging in a variety of outdoor pursuits. The store allows the people of the Park City area and beyond to experience first-hand everything that the legendary outdoor retailer offers, such as quality merchandise, a welcoming shopping environment and a commitment to always do what’s right by its customers, employees, the environment, and the community.

“Park City shares a lot of the same values as L.L.Bean – an understanding of the rewards that come with participation in outdoor activities, and an appreciation for our natural resources and a desire to conserve and protect them,” said Greg Elder, vice president of retail for L.L.Bean. “With the near limitless opportunity for year-round outdoor recreation, we are excited to introduce L.L.Bean to Park City and the entire Wasatch Back.”

In addition to quality merchandise, L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Programs will offer year-round demonstrations, clinics and introductory hands-on courses for a variety of outdoor activities, all designed to make it easy for individuals and families to engage in outdoor recreation for health, fitness and recreation.

Like all L.L.Bean retail stores, the Park City store was built with sustainability in mind, incorporating environmentally friendly features such as plenty of natural light, renewable building materials, energy efficient lighting and mechanical systems and more. This is part of L.L.Bean’s overall commitment to the environment, which includes millions of dollars of donations toward conservation and land stewardship organizations, energy conservation activities, a comprehensive recycling program and more.

The store also features unique local details, including a multimedia tower designed by local creative director Pamela Beverly-Quigley. The tower features ski memorabilia from alpine racing legend Stein Eriksen and images from the Park City Museum photo archives showcasing Park City’s mining history. Video screens share images of Park City residents sharing the joy of the outdoors in all seasons, captured by local videographer Nicholas Vincent. Local artist Bridgette Meinhold has installed a large scale watercolor rendering of McPolin’s Barn framed by the mountains and streams of the Wasatch range.

L.L.Bean has another local tie as the Official Supplier for the U.S. Ski Team, based in Park City, providing the team and staff with insulated outerwear, rainwear, training wear, as well as competitive and casual headwear. L.L.Bean also sells a variety of U.S. Ski Team performance wear, adorned with the U.S. Ski Team logo.

As part of L.L.Bean’s $3 million commitment to the National Park Foundation’s efforts to encourage people to get outside and explore America’s more than 400 national parks, L.L.Bean will donate $5,000 to Timpanogos Cave National Monument in American Fork.

The opening celebration will continue all week. Monday, October 22 through Sunday, October 28, visitors to the store can enter to win two giveaways: an adventure trip for two to Maine through L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Programs, and a Winterstick snowboard hand built in the mountains of Maine. On Saturday, October 27 from noon to 2 p.m., customers can meet Seth Wescott, the most decorated snowboard cross athlete in history, and a longstanding L.L.Bean design and testing partner.
