Laura Erickson: Close Encounters of the Bird Kind
Laura will share tales of her encounters with various bird species during her time as a wildlife rehabilitator, and how different wild birds deal with temporary captivity in their own special ways.
Laura Erickson has been a scientist, teacher, writer, wildlife rehabilitator, professional blogger, public speaker, photographer and Science editor at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. She is the author of eleven books on birds and a producer for the long-running “For the Birds” radio program and podcast.

Monhegan Island Birding Hike, $159
Experience a unique view into bird migration, as you hike along the sheer ocean bluffs of Monhegan Island, one of the nation’s most stunning places and a premier birding destination. Space is limited – advance registration is required.

Acclaimed comic artist Rosemary Mosco will teach you all about drawing and writing comics, help you discover the funny side of nature, and guide you in creating a comic of your own.

Select weekend workshops at our Flagship store, hosted by Center for Wildlife and Chewonki, will use live birds and other unique specimens to educate visitors about birds of prey, owls and other native Maine species. See full event schedule for times and locations.

We’re hosting a weekend of amazing expert-guided outings through the best ocean, river, lake and wooded bird-watching habitats in Freeport, including a Saturday morning walk designed just for kids, led by Laura Erickson.
