The eight new stores will bring the company’s total to 76 stores nationwide in 21 states. Looking ahead to 2027, L.L.Bean plans to further accelerate its retail expansion with an additional eight to 10 new stores, including first-time stores in new markets in the Midwest and Southeast, further strengthening the brand’s presence in high-growth locations.
The Flagship Re-Boot Project
In Fall 2026, L.L.Bean will unveil its reimagined Flagship Campus in Freeport, Maine. The multiyear Flagship Re-Boot Project was designed to elevate the shopping experience and reinforces the brand’s deep connection and commitment to L.L.Bean’s hometown of Freeport.
Designed in a way that honors the timeless architecture of New England, the wood framed building takes inspiration from the Maine outdoors highlighting natural materials and iconic Maine imagery throughout the store. Built on Main Street, in the same location where L.L. opened his first store over a century ago, the reimagined Flagship will feature:
- A more immersive customer experience and product showcase, featuring a footwear destination inspired by Maine’s mountains and trails
- A bigger and better new multi-tier trout pond, with viewing from all sides
- A stream tank doubled in size, with a fish bubble experience for kids and adults
- Expanded in-store café overlooking Main Street and offering in-store coffee and food for customers
- A new product personalization and customization floor where you can personalize your favorite L.L.Bean products
- A new playful children’s area that is inspired by youth summer camps in Maine and the discovery of the outdoors
- Expanded community engagement opportunities in an enlarged Discovery Park
- Upgraded back-of-house functions that customers won’t see, but will experience in improved operations and service
Once complete, the revitalized Freeport Flagship store will more fully bring the L.L.Bean brand to life by creating an environment that inspires and enables customers to experience the restorative power of being outside, all while continuing to serve as one of Maine’s most visited tourist destinations.
