[00:00:14.85] I've been with L.L.Bean for over 16 years. During that entire time, I've been involved with outerwear product development and design. Products at L.L.Bean are developed with a problem-solving mindset, whether it be a customer coming to us with comments on a product we're already selling and ways to improve it or a new idea we might not have thought of to solve a problem.
[00:00:31.30] This is the third generation of the PrimaLoft Packaway jacket. This new generation of PrimaLoft Packaway is a leader in outdoor sustainability and performance. The insulation used in the Packaway is PrimaLoft Cross Core. Cross Core is PrimaLoft insulation infused with aerogel.

[00:00:46.54] Aerogel is the lightest solid material on Earth. It's comprised of up to 95% air, providing incredible thermal properties.
[00:00:54.40] Sustainability has always been important in our material and product development process at L.L.Bean. The previous version of this jacket already used recycled polyester. We further evolved this new version to use PrimaLoft PURE manufacturing. PURE manufacturing stands for Produced Using Reduced Emissions. Our PrimaLoft reduces carbon emissions by at least 50%.
[00:01:14.06] PrimaLoft Cross Core technology with PURE manufacturing is the ultimate combination of performance and sustainability, and L.L.Bean is the first brand to use it in our new Packaway in fall 2025. PrimaLoft was developed in 1984 when the US military contacted PrimaLoft to develop a synthetic alternative to Down.

[00:01:47.38] L.L.Bean started using PrimaLoft in 1990. In fact, we were the first brand to commercially use PrimaLoft. We developed and designed the mountain light jacket in 1990, which was used on the Everest expedition.

[00:01:58.28] The PrimaLoft Packaway is made with Pertex Quantum fabric, both the shell and the lining. The fabric itself is 100% recycled polyester, 20 denier, 42 grams per square meter.
[00:02:08.56] Denier is a measurement of the fineness of the polyester fiber used to make the yarn. The smaller the denier, the lighter the fabric. We chose the 21 denier fabric because it's extremely lightweight and really allows the Packaway to Packdown. Super light, windproof, water resistant.
[00:02:23.13] Construction of the garment. At the center front, we're now using a number five Vislon center front zipper for easy on and easy off. Additionally, we've kept the same low profile construction with hand pockets, a simple chest pocket, easy to cinch draw cords at the hem. We've also updated the construction to be a raglan sleeve design. The raglan sleeve gives you better mobility when you're reaching forward and up.
[00:02:45.52] And our hooded version features a low profile, no fuss hood with a Lycra-bound adjustment. The quilting pattern on our new Packaway has also been updated. While still the same inverted construction, we've also reduced the stitching that used to run down through the body to allow the insulation to fully loft and provide maximum warmth.

[00:03:02.22] The fabric is treated with a PFAS-free C0 DWR, which allows the fabric to shed light rain and precipitation, keeping you warm and dry in all your outdoor activities. Of course, you don't have to take my word for it. Here in our in-house lab and testing facility, we've put our Packaway through the paces, making sure every claim we make will hold up in the real world.

[00:03:50.88] Simply unzip the jacket. Inside the jacket as a pack away pocket. Take the pocket bag out and stuff the jacket inside that pack away pocket. What's great about the Packaway jacket is it compresses down to a small size. It allows you to then use it as a travel pillow, bring it camping, using it as another pillow, or even stuff into a backpack.
[00:04:08.97] The Packaway jacket is an extremely versatile piece. Because it's so light, you can wear it on those cool, crisp days for lightweight warmth. Otherwise, you can layer it up. Personally, I wear mine under my Pathfinder Gore-Tex shell when I'm skiing.
