Buzz Caverly

Gave his time to help add 4,000 acres of land to Baxter State Park

In 2005 after an impressive 46 years of service to Maine's Baxter State Park, Buzz Caverly decided to continue his service to Percival Baxter's vision. An opportunity arose to add 4,000 acres of pristine land around Katahdin Lake to the park, and Buzz jumped at the chance to help make it happen. In the winter of 2006, he made 15 trips to Augusta in 15 days to help see the project through the legislative phase. And as Co-Chair of the campaign with Maine Governor John Baldacci, Buzz drove over 2,000 miles back and forth to guide 22 groups of potential donors to the shores of this magical lake. Buzz seemed to take as much satisfaction in sharing his love of Katahdin Lake as he did in completing the project. His joy was inspirational to everyone involved—both those who were lucky enough to work with him and those who donated to the cause. In the end, his efforts were instrumental in raising $14 million and adding Katahdin Lake to Baxter State Park.
