Rated 5 out of 5 by Cranford Women's field watch
I have had my field watch for 20 years and when it needs to be replaced I will get another. I can wear it swimming, in the shower, and in the ocean. Several years ago it stopped working, maybe too much ocean exposure, and I sent it back to LL Bean to be repaired. They replaced the entire inside of the watch for a very reasonable price. Now two of my kids wear field watches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by nutellacrepe Bought this watch before the internet was invented
I'm not kidding. It's been in the washer and dryer (by mistake) at least three times. The band has finally cracked on the inside, but from the outside looks fine. Some scratches after about 18 years, but I still like its classic looks. Much better than checking your phone to see what time it is. I agree that I seem to have to change the battery nearly every year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by horsegal 10 years old, still perfect
I wish this watch would stop working so I could buy another. I've had it 10 years or so, and it's been perfect. I use it horseback riding, so it gets sweaty and drenched in water. When I bring it home, I honestly wash it, especially the band - and let it sit out to dry. Never had a problem. The thing is rock solid, and looks nice too. Now if they just offered a radio controlled version so it could be exactly at the right time, I'd be happier. But come to think of it, I don't have to adjust more than at most once a year anyway, so not a big deal.

by MissBailey Not as I expected...
I saw this in the display case in Marlton over Christmas and didn't try it on, Wish I had, instead, months later I have it delivered to AZ only to find out its not as I had expected.
First, the watch band isn't the same. On the web site it appears to be uniform in size all the way around. The watch band I received is tapered towards the end and seems much skinner - it's only 1 cm wide. (see pic)
Second I think I anticipated the face to be a little bigger. I only use 1.0 readers, but the numbers et al on this watch face are really small.
Not sure if I will return or not. Definitely don't like the band, seems fragile.

Less than a month after receiving this watch I had to replace the battery. Watch is ok if you only want an " idea" of what time it is, otherwise it runs from 10 to 30 minutes slow very frequently. I had bought one around 10 years ago because it's a nice style, but ended up sending that one back too. I thought maybe they'd improved it but I guess not. Pretty expensive for such poor quality. Won't buy one again.

Rated 3 out of 5 Watch is great, the band, well...
Have had this watch for about 4-5 years and the watch is great, dark face easy to read, works fine. But it is a sport watch and a leather band is a bad idea, given moisture etc. It wore out and broke quickly. I favor the nylon bands that are easily slipped over pins (so that you are not constantly removing the pins to change bands) to match outfits, easy to wash, and had a slew of them years ago for another watch. Alas, they are now hard to come by, slightly too narrow (or way too wide) for this watch and Only BORING solid colors like black and brown or a few muted stripe combinations. LLBean, how about some stripes and polka dots to match your clothes? It would be a great add-on item assuming they are priced right.

Rated 3 out of 5 by RavenEye Pretty Good So Far
I recently ordered this field watch with the white background face. I like that the numbers/hands are easily readable. However, there are a couple of things that prevented my giving this item a higher rating. The first is that setting the date to operate accurately seems impossible, even though I followed the directions exactly as noted in the instructions. It remains a half-day off no matter what I do. The second thing is that the date - while seemingly easy to see on the picture online - in reality is nowhere near readable, the lines are extremely fine and light. And finally, I was surprised that the watch was shipped with the watch already running -- how long was this sitting on a supply shelf, and how much time is left on the purported 2-year battery? The watch seems to be operating well so far otherwise, but time will tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OutdoraTheExplorer Excellent quality watch
I bought my Women's Classic Field Watch in 1997 and have worn it daily ever since. To this day it is keeping perfect time, the crystal is unblemished and the time is clear and easy to read. At that time this watch was sold with three different styles of watch straps and a set of tools with which to change the straps quickly and easily for any given occasion. I still use the tough fabric one. When it gets soiled it gets washed in the washing machine coming out like new. This watch has become part of me, and if and when it finally comes to the end of its life, I will be mourning it. Then I will be ordering a new one, pronto. L.L. Bean, please consider bringing back the three different choices of straps. It was a great idea and a valuable bonus.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Pirate2 disappointing
I bought this watch to replace a Swiss army watch I've had for 20 years or more. The crystal is already scratched after a few months and the band is unraveling. It's going back!

In my view, the best description of this watch is "no nonsense." It isn't trendy, flashy or trying to be a look-alike for an overpriced "status brand." It's styling is classic and understated, which I love.
It is also functional, accurate, rugged, and easy to read (even in the dark). And it has a date window, which I refuse to do without. I've had mine for a few months now. If it continues to stand up to my accidental drops, dunks and daily gym workouts, I'll be even more pleased.
