L.L.Bean Announces Complimentary Outdoor Discovery Courses to Help More Americans Get Outside this Summer

Registration for courses, sponsored by Mastercard, begin June 20 and will take place June 28 through July 11 in select locations

Outdoor retailer L.L.Bean is encouraging everyone to experience the benefits of time spent outside this summer by offering complimentary courses through its Outdoor Discovery Program. Sponsored by Mastercard, the Discovery Series courses will be offered free of charge at select L.L.Bean locations nationwide from June 28 to July 11. Outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels can sign up for these free courses from June 20 to 27 while space is available on

“Our company’s purpose has always been to help people experience the restorative benefits of time spent outside, and our Outdoor Discovery courses are one of the many ways we do just that,” said Nicholas Wilkoff, Chief Marketing Officer for L.L.Bean. “We are thrilled to partner with Mastercard to offer complimentary courses that will enable participants to experience new outdoor activities alongside our skilled instructors.”

These courses, which typically cost $29.95, are a fun and easy introduction to new outdoor adventures led by experts and will be facilitated in a safe environment to protect the health and safety of all participants. Complimentary programs may include:

Archery – Learn the proper techniques of this age-old sport to perfect your bow and arrow accuracy and precision.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding – Discover how easy it is to balance on top of the water by learning the basic paddleboard strokes and skills while you explore scenic lakes, coves and inlets.

Kayaking – Explore nature and learn about the eco-system and history of the area after learning how to safely and comfortably navigate the water.

Fly-Casting – Discover the components of a fly-rod outfit and learn foundational skills on which to build more advanced casting techniques from experienced instructors. (Maine only)
