It wasnt good enough to sharpen my buck and kabar. I guess it may only be good for cold steel knives. Some of my friends say, ceramic sharpners are better than diamond. Product is made sturdy and lasts long, but not that useful for large knives. Size 400 and 600 sandpaper was found better effective on high carbon steel knives.

I have owned the straight blade sharpener for ten years and have always found it a joy to use. I ordered this one to sharpen my serrated steak knives and wood chisels, and again I am overjoyed with the quality and performance. You only need water as a lubricant- no oil to mess with!

The tapered style allows it to be used on various sizes of serrations. I recommend the coarse which makes sharpener easier and I don't think a real fine edge is necessary for serrations to work. You will used this a lot before it wears out.
