Would have been acceptable if it had a metal zipper and if the wool was thicker. Instead a $120 jacket was supplied with a cheap plastic zipper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by busymomthreeboys Great fit
Purchased this jacket for my 17 year old son who likes to spend a lot of time in the woods. He has worn this on rainy days and nights below 10 degrees, and now this is his favorite jacket. I love the fit and length, he is very pleased!

Gift for husband. Although this looked great on, it was unwearable. ITCHY wool, like a brillo pad around the neck and wrists. They should have lined the neck and cuffs with fleece, then it would have been nice. Too bad.

Rated 4 out of 5 Well made, could use a nylon liner
Well constructed. Would be nice if they added a nylon liner to the inside. I had to decide between this one or the one with windshear lining. I would just like one with a nylon liner. Wool is very nice and tailoring is good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by kwest737 High Quality and Affordable!
Merry Christmas to me! I have wanted wool camo clothing for years but it's typically super expensive and hard to find. I received the Maine Guide Zip-front Jac-shirt for Christmas and I am very impressed. Good camo pattern. Good quality wool. Great fit (I ordered a large after trying the XL which was too big). Very high quality for the price! I can't wait to get to the woods in it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by oldwindknot sweet wool shirt/jacket
To begin, I am 5'6" tall 145 lbs. I bought the small.
After a lot of research, I bought the jack-shirt in the Malone style at my wife's insistance. The red lines are subdued and so it looks very nice and conservative. I agree with other reviewers that the sizing is off. I expected it to be cut fulll in the body which it is allowing for layering, but the sleeve length is more for an orangutan. I have taken it to a tailor to have the sleeves shortened. $20. I presume Bean cuts the sleeves long so that the user can shorten them to suit the size. The wool weight is perfect for my intended use which is general and deer hunting in Northern California. In October the weather in the woods is cool in the morning and a wool jacket allows for quiet movement as well as adequate warmth. The liners in the hand pockets are obscenely soft on the back of the hands, which is good.
I would recommend that they put a two way zipper on the jacket so when I sit on a tree stump, I do not have to unzip it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by bryanketter Sizing Issue but great retro look.
I love this jacket, it looks great and seems well constructed. I am not sure about the plastic zipper, as that may take years to be answered. I have the same jacket in windstop, same color even. The jacket with windstop is a medium, the shirt jacket is a small. When you lay them on top of each other they are exactly the same size. I really have been having a lot of sizing issues lately with Bean products, and it is making internet/catalogue ordering a real gamble.

Got the red for my husband for hunting. he loves it. I got him his regular size and his 850 lightweight jacket fits under it for colder days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Reprobait It's not Fleece
Bought this red jacket as it so closely resembled one I had as a youngster - and I'm 72. I'm 5' 9" and 177 lbs. I bought a Large. It fit well - just right for a heavy shirt or light sweater under it.. The exception was the sleeve length, they would fit a gorilla. I moved the sleeve buttons one button width farther away and when they're buttoned it cured the length. I want to remind you that this is "wool" and not fleece. It's not soft and cuddly - it's hard "WOOL" and wind goes through it like spit through a goose. However it is very "CLASSIC" and I love the retro fit and look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MasterGuide Handsome jacket with a well tailored look.
I recently ordered two Jac-Shirts in traditional Maine Game Warden dress-red. As a master Maine Guide, I just love the wool, tailored fit and look of the Jac-Shirt. In Maine, the Jac-Shirt is the traditonal jacket worn by guides statewide. I also have the same jacket lined with wind-stopping materials which I wear during deer hunting season. The jacket can be worn as a field jacket or as a classic dress coat. Coupled with L.L. Beans long tradition of supplying outstanding service and quality hunting clothing, the Maine Guide Jac-Shirt is a "must-have" clothing item for those who love the outdoors.
