Rated 1 out of 5 by capecodRN heavy, hard to walk in-impossible to drive in
These boot are warm and dry but if you are doing anything but playing in the snow, think twice. They are very heavy and uncomfortably rigid - the fit in the ankle area is so loose my feet felt like they were swimming in them. They are hard to walk in because there is no give to them and they are IMPOSSIBLE/UNSAFE to drive in because they are so stiff and heavy. The sole is so thick and inflexible that it's tough to feel the gas/brake pedals Unfortunately, they had to go back . Hats off to LL Bean though because I bought these on line in December of 2013 and just returned them last week at a retail shop- no questions asked and very friendly, professional customer service at the Mansfield Ma store .I have the zip up shearling lined boots and love them. I plan on picking up a pair of the 10" shearling lined lace ups when the time comes because I have discovered that I prefer the fit, feel and comfort of the older design .

Bought these for next winter, but we had a six-inch dumping two days after the Snow Boots arrived, so I tried them out. Was pleased at the warmth and dryness. Since this was a wet, heavy snow, there was definitely a chance for wet feet. Not with these. Of course the temps were in the mid twenties so it wasn't a real test of the advertised 20 to 45 below zero comfort zone. Probably have to wait until next year to check that out, but living in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, you can never tell. After all it's April 12, and we still have three feet of snow in the back yard!

Rated 2 out of 5 by gormetshopper not great fit, heavy
The boots are very warm, but heel does not fit snugly and the tongue of the boot is very stiff, actually cut my leg through the socks. I thought it would relax with frequent usage, but unfortunately stayed the same. I usually love LL Bean products; this is my 1st bad experience, but would not recommend them.

These boots are not a fashion-plate, but I really bought them to keep my feet warm. I recommend wearing a thin sock in the boot - thick socks aren't necessary because of the insulation factor. I also felt like thick socks made the boot feel snug. I have a small frame so if you tend to have a small frame the calf area of the boot is a bit roomy. I went on a two mile winter hike through lots of snow and slush and ice. Boots remained comfortable and had good traction. My feet stayed perfectly warm. A few people commented on the boots giving them a thumbs up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by pikabooka Warm, but tight
I have worn the boots several times now since I purchased them. Right now the upper leather portion is a bit stiff, but I think that will be remedied with use. They are very warm, but a bit tight around the seam where the rubber meets the leather. I wish they came in 1/2 sizes. I probably should have purchased the next size up from my normal shoe size in order to wear bigger socks. I do believe they recommend that in the description, but I didn't pay close enough attention.

The boots were fine until the eyelets broke after wearing the boots for less than one week. Then looking closer at the construction we saw that the leather used for the eyelets is very thin. As a result, these boots are useless.

I just got these as a gift and I love them! I wear a size 8 always. I have them in a size 9 and they fit perfect. I can wear them with cotton socks or my thick wool socks which I like better because my feet are always cold. The other day the wind chill was -11 and they were fine.I am surprised they didnt feel warmer since every one up north said they were so warm. I can bend down with no problems. They fit alittle close on top of foot were the leather starts but I'm sure they will loosen up but if they don't its ok because they're still comfy. They do look wide but they don't fit wide.Inside liner is almost 1/2 thick. I had no problems getting them off and on and the liner doesn't try to come out when I take them off. I was surprised that when I walked across some patches of frozen snow that it was still slippery, but reg snow had no problems.Heel fits great! The heel is about as loose as my cowboy boots so had no problems and they are all I wear. Would buy again

I really like the look of these boots. LLBean is always very reliable, so I ordered these. They are extremely well made and look like they would last forever. However, my usual size is 8.5, but they had only 8s and I ordered these. They are quite large. Even a half size down from normal was way too big! I had to return for this reason. Also, the shaft is very stiff when you walk. I think this is something that would have worked in had I been able to keep them(plus you can loosen the laces), but they were just too big. For size reason alone, I gave 3 stars.
Color was great! Different.

They were good quality, but, I needed the 7 1/2 size (not available), so I had to return, sadly. Too late in the season to get all sizes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jmea1776 A great winter boot.
I did read some of the other reviews before buying these boots so here are my two cents...yes, they are very stiff when they first arrive but after wearing them for a few hours they have loosened up nicely. Also, I usually wear a 8 1/2 to a 9 so I ordered the 9 and they fit great. I wear bulky socks in the winter so there are no issues. If you wear thinner socks then you might want to order the next size down. I like the height of the boot on my calves since we have gotten quite a bit of snow this winter. All in all a great, quality boot for the price.
