Rated 5 out of 5áby ChicagoReviewer Sizing/warmth review (urban use)
I've been a lifelong L.L. Bean fan (grew up wearing the classics) but it'd been a (long) while since I'd purchased anything new. This item solidified my faith in Bean; they still deliver affordable, good-looking, well-made products that perform as advertised.
I needed an all-purpose winter coat for city wear and didn't want to look like I was about to go skiing/mountaineering, nor ice-fishing in Yakutsk (also didn't want to wear a long wool dress coat or a peacoat), and this parka provided. I have the Loden Heather and it looks dark green from a few feet away; up close there are brighter green flecks interspersed with the darker green tones.
It is heavy, warm, well-made, and generously-sized. I'm 6'3", 200 lb., and the large fits me well. If you are not as big as me, and still routinely wear size-L sweaters, sport shirts, etc., think twice about getting a large in this coat. It's made for movement and for layering underneath. There are a lot of non-tiny men who would likely take a medium in this parka.
Even when it fits, it's not tailored, like so many of the "winter" coats that designers make, but it's warmer than any of these peacoat-looking items, and still has a classic look. It's a true hunting coat, and has an authentic cut, so that one can hoist a rifle or shotgun, or just put a seatbelt on without too much straining.
The collar unfolds to warmly and comfortably ensconce the neck, and can be held in this position by a strap which is, when not in use, secured in place with a well-placed button. There are a lot of good pockets, the handwarmers being well-placed and quite deep, while the lower pockets are also voluminous and easy to snap with one hand (two snaps per pocket).
If you need maximum warmth, you might need down, but few of us are outside in frigid temps long enough. You can throw this on over a single layer for an evening errand in cold weather (and the smooth lining makes donning this parka a joy). As a field jacket, I can imagine that it would be highly functional. With a fleece jacket underneath, the functional-use temp drops considerably. If I layer well, I can get quite hot in this parka very quickly. Way too warm to drive in for more than short periods in very cold weather. Today while wearing this parka, I found myself driving in 30║F weather without the heat on in the car.
A slightly more tailored version of this parka in Navy would be a real coup. As it stands, if you are contemplating, just buy this already!

Rated 5 out of 5áby Mgwp Long lasting
I purchased this to replace the one my husband had for 32 years. The old one is still usable just a little rough around the edges and we only paid $20 more then we did 32 years ago. A great investment.

Rated 5 out of 5áby tjhuntin very warm plenty of pockets VERY QUIET
excellent value great for cold weather hunting, windy, snow, sleet works well can handle rain to some extend. sizing tends to be rather tight around hip and shoulders if you wear matching wool pants or any other wool pant and layers you should go up a size, so you can regain free movement and not feel binding around hips and arms.

I found this jacket to be very comfortable and very well made, Lots of great handy pockets for hunting equipment. I took advice from the other reviews and bought a medium and I normally take a large and it fits perfect. I live in Australia and it shipped in only three weeks which was really fast delivery. Cant wait for cold weather hunting again soon so I can wear it. Well worth the price it will last me for years very happy with my purchase

Rated 5 out of 5áby GrryWI I love the style
I love the quality of this coat and it feels like it will be warm. Winter isn't here yet. It may be just me but it seems that the size runs a little larger than what is stated.

I ordered this coat in a large after reading the reviews about the coat running on the big side. When I received the coat it was snug as a large is on me. But I liked it so much I kept it to wear with no layering and I ordered another in extra large like I should have in the first place. Really nice coat and I highly recommend it. The liner is a huge plus. The only problem with wool is the wind can get through it and the liner cures that.

Rated 4 out of 5áby RedlegShopper Great Coat...For Long-Armed People
Great coat and very well constructed. One and only complaint...the sleeves are way too long. The coat's sleeves completely cover the tops of my hands down to the knuckles. I am having the length adjusted by a tailor. Luckily, it will be ready before the winter weather arrives. Plenty of room for layering. I ordered a size large and it fits well.

Rated 4 out of 5áby BadBadLeroyBlack Nice Parka
This is a nice Parka and I am sure it will keep me warm this winter. Beware that, as others reviewers have stated, this runs LARGE. I have worn a large size for most of the last 30 years. The large I initially ordered was way too big. I exchanged it for a medium and it fits much better, but it is still on the large size... I will have no issue layering underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5áby kennycol Great Wool Coat
I was pleasantly surprised with this wool coat. It is heavier than I anticipated and will keep you nice and warm in the cold weather. It appears to be very well made and has pleats in the back so that it is not tight across the chest when streching your arms out.
