First rate product. Outstanding in nearly every regard - quality, shipping & customer service. Assembly - All screws had to be lined up and loosely threaded (like a pilot hole) before being tightened in succession. Even with the allen wrench that was provided, it was a cinch to assemble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hoya74 Substantial and comfortable
After much research, we decided on the Bean All-Weather furniture for our covered front porch (glider, 2 rockers and 2 tables) and then waited for the Bean July 4th sale (15% OFF with Bean Visa) to purchase them. Outstanding purchase, plus over $50 in Bean coupons!
The chairs don't "scream" plastic, are comfortable (w/o cushions) and appear to be very sturdy. Assembly wasn't too bad, although the instructions could use some work (screws are not necessary to install the seat although it is threaded and one could readily assume it should be screwed in). When I assembled the second rocker, I put the rockers on after I had assembled the chair (rather than at the beginning as per the instructions) and this seemed to make things go quicker. I suggest gradually tightening the screws rather than completely tightening each individual screw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by billetproof Awesome rockers
Just purchased 2 of these rockers in black after trying them out during our recent visit to the LL Bean store in Freeport, ME. I was reluctant to order due to some reviews regarding assembly, however I was able to assemble in about 20 minutes each by myself. It required installing 18 screws/bolts and 2 finials for each chair. All of the required holes were drilled and the fasteners could easily be inserted. One area where the instructions were not clear was the installation of the actual seat. Although there were threaded ends on the seat frame and it appeared that the chair should have holes drilled for them, no fasteners are required to hold the seat in place. As the chair is tightened together, the seat and upper head is captured between the two sides and will not come off. I would also recommend not using the drill hex tool or the t-handle hex wrench that is included. The hex pocket in the bolts is somewhat shallow and could easily be stripped. Instead use a long handled 5/32" Allen type wrench and make sure that it is firmly inserted into the hex pocket on the fastener. Then you can achieve enough torque by turning with the longer arm to install the screws and tighten.
I am very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend these chairs. They are extremely comfortable and seem as though they will last a long time here in Florida.

Rated 1 out of 5 by IslandTrekster Unable to assemble
I ordered 2 of these and sent both back. They were part of an order of 6 items -- 4 of which turned out to be defective (including one of these -- after that many defective items, I refused to assemble the 2nd one of these and was refunded my money). The problem with this one was that the caned seat fit in to the chair assembly on one side, but was to narrow to fit on the other (and there was no way to loosen things up to make it fit).

Rated 5 out of 5 by BD77 Wonderful, the second time around!
This is a pricey item and I had held off for quite a while before ordering. I decided to treat myself, particularly since I value LLBean product quality. Excited when it arrived, I was extremely disappointed when the holes on the rocker arm were off center and could not be attached. The positive however, was that when I called, the phone was answered by a REAL PERSON, who was extremely helpful and gracious. She immediately send me out a replacement as well as a return label for the defective chair. The new one arrived today and although it took a bit of muscle, I had no trouble putting it together by myself in less than an hour. It is beautiful and well worth it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Topsham Frustrating assembly and poorly cut pieces.
This rocker really is lovely to look at but putting it together is not just a simple matter of a few minutes. The holes are not well drilled and the fit of the pieces is not perfect. The directions were a little too abbrieviated as well, causing me to make a mistake in assembly.
Perhaps if I had had a working drill to put the hex piece into it would have gone more quickly but I spent over an hour at it and now have to take part of it apart to put the seat in.
When I spend this much on a piece of outdoor furniture, and extra for delivery, I think it should be very simple to assemble or pre-assembled.
Not what I usually expect from Beans.

by Winniwoman Assembly and Quality Problems
We have 2 of these All-Weather Presidential Rockers. As a product, I would have given these chairs 5 stars, but because of the poor way they were produced and the difficult assembly required, my rating went down to only 2 stars.
It took me 4 hours to put the first rocker together! It took me 1-1/2 hours to put together the second rocker and that was only because I learned from the first one that I had to drill out myself all the holes that were *supposed* to be pre-drilled. (Note that I do a lot of carpentry work, so I am quite familiar with this sort of thing.)
Particular problems I encountered in the assembly of these rockers consisted of the following:
1) Most of the holes where the screws were to insert were not completely drilled through and they were *all* undersized for the screws in both chairs. (See photo illustration.)
2) Because the screws were over-sized for the holes, 4 of them were stripped in the process of screwing them in. Also, on one chair one screw was missing.
3) A round ball finial is supposed to be inserted into the "hole provided" in each of the back supports. No holes were provided in any of the chair supports.
4) One of the horizontal top parts of the back support did not properly fit into the notch in the vertical support as the others did. That is, it was not flush against the support.
5) Finally, the horizontal dowel under the seat in one of the chairs is bowed.
We spent $728.00 on these 2 chairs that were neither possible to assemble as directed nor of the quality expected from Bean's.

We bought two, in black, for our back patio. They are extremely comfortable, classy in appearance, and a beautiful asset to our outdoor seating. I wish LLBean had more outdoor furniture options in black. Would definitely purchase other pieces.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ShopperDi Lovely in the end....................
We love love love the finished product, but putting the two chairs together was close to a nightmare. Do NOT think that the assembly can be done by one person alone and do NOT think that you can tighten the "screws" unless you have incredible strength. The use of hex head screws using a 4 mm. allen wrench instead of "normal" screws made it even harder since they stripped easily and we couldn't use a cordless drill. In this day and age, it seemed like an antiquated way to do things. I still gave it a 4 star because they turned out beautifully. Just be aware that the assembly is far from average.
