Greg Ponte - MAINE TROUT UNLIMITED TROUT CAMP
A Long History of Education, Advocacy and Conservation
Having taken the Maine Trout Unlimited Trout Camp from a far-fetched idea to reality in a remarkably short time, Greg Ponte now serves tirelessly as its executive director. Greg's camp has helped over 60 teenagers learn about themselves, the sport of fly fishing and the conservation issues facing the next generation of anglers.
Greg's dedication to educating young people also includes teaching fly-fishing and fly-tying classes in high schools throughout Maine, as well as Boy and Girl Scout functions.
When asked about what draws him to teaching kids about fishing, he radiates enthusiasm. "The opportunity for amazement isnít always there when you've done something 1,000 times. But kids have this fascination about fishing when they try it for the first time."
In addition to his educational efforts, Greg serves on several citizen groups at both state and local levels. Most recently, he has drawn legislative attention to matters that could affect local trout fisheries and their habitat.
