Hi. I'm Kevin Nadeau, with L.L.Bean's product development team. The Microlight FS Tent is our lightest, most-compact backpacking tent. The one-person weighs about 2½ pounds, while the two-person comes in at 3 pounds, 12 ounces.
We designed it for serious backpackers, kayak campers and outdoor enthusiasts who need to keep weight and bulk to a minimum. Because of its exceptional design and incredible value, the two-person model was chosen as the winner of Backpacker Magazine's prestigious Editors' Choice Award for 2012.
The 7000-series aluminum frame is strong, lightweight and very easy to set up. Its design creates near-vertical walls that maximize interior space. The two-person has two roomy vestibules that provide dry storage and space for backpacks and other gear. If anything gets wet and muddy, just keep it in the vestibule so your sleeping area stays nice and dry.
The one-person is equipped with one vestibule. The vestibule doors can be rolled pack to let air in when the weather is nice. The waterproof fly is made from 30-denier, ripstop, siliconized nylon, one of the lightest, strongest tent fabrics you can find. The tent body is made from bug-proof No-See-Um mesh that allows for excellent ventilation.
The two-person has two large side-entry doors, so you don't have to crawl over your partner's sleeping bag to get into the tent. The one-person has one door. Like all L.L.Bean tents, the Microlight is designed to by dry, simple and strong. It'll keep you dry even in the most torrential rainstorms; it sets up in minutes. And, best of all, it will last for years of backpacking adventures.
