Rated 4 out of 5 by MojaveDesert Good day hikers but, too hot for Mojave Desert
I bought these thinking they were the ventilator non WP, and they are very hot. We have temps over 95 and it isn't even June.
Nice shoes for cooler weather.

I read many reviews about these boots before purchasing and knew that I wasn't getting a waterproof boot. If not for my discount bean dollars I may not have paid this much for this "waterproof boot". I bought these not for the waterproof feature but the comfort, fit and that they breath. They may be the most comfortable shoe I own, I have walked 7 miles in them and my feet felt great. They also have great traction. If you are looking for a comfortable, hiking boot I recommend them. I wore them in the rain, they are not waterproof. They do run a little small, if you like a little extra room order the next size up. I like my footwear snug like an athletic shoe which makes these perfect for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by HudsonHiker Merrell boots are not what they used to be.
These boots where comfortable in the store. I spent 45 minutes walking around the store to get a feel for the fit. The problem with hiking boots in nothing can duplicate actual technical trail hiking. I find that you feel rocks with these shoes. The water proofing disappears after a few uses. The shoes are also very warm and will make your feet sweat. These boots utilized M-dry to technology to water proof them. M-dry is inferior to goretex, Gortex allows your feet to breathe. M-dry is basically a sock that is inserted into the shoe. If you take out the foot bed liners, you can see this construction. The liner is next to the vents, but the liner does not dry quickly. The mid sole of this boot is also flexible and weak. This boot will break down fast with hard use. I can also see signs of glue joints coming apart. I have only had these since August 2014 and have only hiked about 4 times wearing these boots. I find the toe box becomes tight at the end of the day. After your feet swell, these boots become tight in length and in the toe box. If you still decide to buy, you should try them on in the store. Most people will need to go up at least a half size. Good luck in your search for the perfect boot.

These boots were advertised as waterproof, but my experience says otherwise. I went for an hour and half hike on a ski trail, just after it stopped raining, and my socks and feet were soaked when I finished. Previously I had noticed that the boots got hot quite easily, which I had assumed was due to the GoreTex and "waterproof" leather exterior. On the positive side, the boot are very comfortable and provide excellent grip and cushioning. These should be fine if you hike in decent weather most of the time, but I wouldn't recommend them for demanding conditions. I would try ordering half a size up (as I did), they seem to run small.
