Just returned from Arctic summer. Wore this as great base layer / mosquito repellent. Also wore in Tanzania 2 years ago defending against gnats. Worked really well, bug-wise. And good weight for base layer. BUT -- my skin reacted to the chemical: slightly reddened skin and itch/burn, like a medium sunburn, on all skin surfaces touched by it. Certainly bearable, and I think better than bites, but quite surprising and uncomfortable on long return plane flights. Go ahead and purchase, but be warned.

I ordered one for myself and kept it and then ordered one for my husband. But in between i read an article about a Consumer Reports testing of shirts like these and they didn't do as good a job at stopping bites as Deet. The reason I bought it was so I wouldn't have to put on an insect repellent but if I have to do that anyway it defeats the purpose. Apparently, the insect repellent woven into this fabric actually doesn't stop mosquitoes from landing on you and biting you - it just kills them after they do. Whereas Deet apparently works by keeping bugs from landing on you in the first place. So...I sent this men's shirt back and will go back to bug spray.

Very comfortable & works out well in a swimming pool. Works out well for me since I'm prone to skin cancer & am allergic to most
Sun screens, lotion & sprays.

We are headed to the tropics and these are perfect. We ordered one for both my husband and myself. They feel great, soft and lightweight. We are very pleased. We have used other buzzoff shirts and they have always kept biting bugs away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FishinBeanerME My favorite shirt for adventuring
This is my go to shirt for all things adventure in the summer. Kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking.. you name it!
The fabric is quick drying and great for wicking sweat. Add in the SPF and bug protection and this shirt is well worth the money!

I salt water fish a lot, mostly fly fish. I like hoodies because they keep the sun off my head and actually allow me to see better through the water when sight fishing. I particularly like this one. I found the material soft and comfortable. The longer sleeves protect my hands without wearing sun gloves. Recently returned from a week bone fishing in Bahamas and I wore it almost everyday. Dries so quickly can wash in shower every night. I own several hoodies and this is my favorite, very functional.

Got one of the blue and one of the metal color. The blue looks just like what you see on the website (Still didn't like the color). The metal color sadly had some sort of sickly mint green tinge to it. The fabric rips easily and that was just going outside walking the dog when bugs were out in full force. I can't imagine taking this out on a trip camping or anything else for that matter.
The only thing that was great about this hoodie is that it definitely keeps the bugs off of you. They really need to work on some better colors (other than ugly pastel) and use better fabric.

I own several of these hoodie-style UPF shirts from different makers, and of course this LL Bean brand ranks at the top.
As always, the quality is top notch and the fit is great. For those who have never tried a UPF hoodie, you're missing out; the fabric is light and airy (MUCH cooler than a t-shirt) so when wearing the hood, you hardly even know its there. More importantly, you'll hardly even know the sun is there on those hot days.
My only complaint about this garment and why it gets 4 stars and not 5, is that it comes with one small pocket which is placed at the shirt's tail and on the backside. The pocket seems worthless to me and not sure this was done??
Hey Bean, a vertical chest pocket large enough to accommodate today's smart phones would be a nice addition.
