These shoes had to be returned because they were too narrow despite ordering the wide width. I have 2 pairs of Pathfinders from a few years ago and the fit is perfect: roomy toebox in both width and depth that comfortably accommodates my orthotics. This newer model is both too narrow and too shallow in the toe. When my current ones fall apart I'm not sure what options there will be as most other brands are all too narrow. And now, sadly, the new version of the LL Bean Pathfinder is too narrow as well. Paying for return postage is a frustration when I thought I was making a tried-and-true-purchase. I'm very disappointed LL Bean - can't anyone make a truly wide toebox - and stay with it?

My steel toe work boots are more comfortable than these shoes. These are stiff, with no cushion and are being sent back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by LifeLongBeaner2 sadly, didn't work for me
the sole is very well cushioned and material was breathable / great support however sadly, the rear of the left shoe "cut" into the back of my heel/ankle thus didn't work for me. bummer because otherwise a very comfy shoe.

Love these shoes! I wear a 9W and they fit perfectly. I wear them daily and they are very comfortable. Just purchased a second pair in a different color. They fit like a sneaker only better.
I would recommend this shoe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LLBeanShopperinKC If only the shoestrings were longer...
I rarely purchase women's-sized hiking shoes because they are not usually wide when I order wide. I went ahead and purchased these and the wide is wide enough. They fit nicely and will be comfortable with hiking socks as well. My one complaint, and the reason my rating is 4-stars and not 5-stars, is that the shoestrings are just barely long enough to tie. With men's-sized hiking shoes, the shoestrings are always long enough to double tie, which means they won't come untied on me. These strings are not long enough to do that and I will be searching for longer shoestrings. I have numerous foot problems and require good support for walking any distance at all. I do like LL Bean's hiking shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TraverseOutdoorGal I love these shoes!
I bought these to replace my Merrell Ventilators, which I've been using as summer walking shoes for 7 or 8 years (several pairs). This time the Ventilators are still going strong, but we are heading to southeast Asia in a few months, and I wanted to make sure my shoes would hold up to several weeks of walking in hot climates. Today I wore them all day volunteering at school, on my feet for several hours, and they feel wonderful. The insole is nice and substantial, and the outer sole is thick enough to provide a cushion on hard floors. More comfy than my Merrells! I am thinking about buying a second pair just to keep in storage.

I found these shoes very comfortable and easy to break in. Went on some long walks and they did not cause my feet any pain. They feel very sturdy on my feet and look nice.

I loved these shoes when I first put them on..But two 4.5 mile walks later, the small toe on my right foot was blistered, and then bleeding profusely. What I found were rough edges, material loose on the inside of the shoe. The left foot was ok. I will be returning them, and have purchased another pair of boots from LL Bean.
Be sure to check the inside completely before you wear them.
I have had several pairs of Bean boots before, and have never run into this problem. Different manufacturer?

Purchased these shoes for a hike up Tumbledown! Wore them around for one day to break them in- then hiked with my students up the wet slippery Brook Trail of Tumbledown Mt. Awesome support- my feet were not the least bit sore- no slippage either! Great hiking shoes!
