Rated 5 out of 5 down filled sleeping bag
By now I think I am qualified to comment on the down filled bag I bought 35+ years ago---not a bag for the summer--super in the winter. My wife and I used it extensively in the 1970's + 80"s.
toured mostly on a motorcycle---And I remember staying in the mountains of montana many nights at 10F-0F and was warm and comfy--I have 2 that she zipped together. They came with a cotton sheet that snapped inside and when it got to warm we just used the sheet. I live in maine now--I'm 80 years old and use it every nite so I can let the fire go out. At sub zero in Jan. when I wake up it's close
to 50F in here. but I am comfortable in my bed.
I CERTAINLY GOT MY MONEY'S WORTH

I bought this bag in Long about 15 years ago; mine is green. Back then it had 600 fill and a semi-microfiber shell to keep the moisture at bay. I see now it has a special treatment to the down. Not too sure that matters much to me as I wouldn't consider using this next to a stream (mist) or in the rain.
It has been used snow camping in a hut carved into a drift, as a comforter in a base camp and as a car/RV camping bag.
A little logic goes a long way when choosing a bag. If you are skinny, you have no business with a rectangular bag; you'll get cold. If you have some length and girth as I do you'll need the extra room and since your large surface area will produce a great deal of heat the insulating properties will keep you toasty.
The bag is designed with a smaller loft on the bottom; it is very important to use a quality mattress under the bag. I chose a 3" thick self inflating (Therma-Rest) rectangular base camp model. If you try to get by with a skinny mattress and find yourself cold due to not enough insulation under you, switch up to a thicker mattress.
After all these years I am still very satisfied with this purchase.

I've used it for tent camping and extensively (nightly for months) in our RV. Large temperature latitude. I have the "0" degree bag and it is nice and warm. If anything, I find myself opening it often or using it as a quilt, because as a bag, it is quite warm. Was 21 degrees one morning (I checked the inside thermometer) and was very comfortable in it, but not when I got out of the bag! Light, packs well but bulky for backpacking. But I think ANY bag with this temp rating and shape will be bulky to some degree. Does dry out fairly rapidly and still provided warmth even after a soaking wet retriever tried to get into it before me. Speaking of which, if it is left out, the dogs do tend to want to sleep on it. I think I've had it close to a year now, mild shedding of down feathers. Great shape to open and use as a quilt. The zipper gets caught (in the fabric) every once in awhile, but unsticks easily. A comfortable, versatile bag. Really, nothing negative about it.

I have always enjoyed ll bean clothes, but had not previously had a lot of experience with ll bean camping gear. I have generally used synthetic insulated bags in the past. I wanted a warm rectangular down bag I could use for backpacking, car camping, winter RV camping, and one that would unzip all the way so it can be used as a quilt. This one seemed to fit my needs. As covered by other reviewers, the temp rating is a little generous- even with some clothes on, I do not believe you would be very comfortable near 0 degrees. However, I think it should perform just fine in below freezing temperatures. I almost bought the 20 degree model, but am now very happy that I got this one. This IS a very nice quality down bag- great loft, the zipper works smoothly, and the shell material is comfortable to the touch. I believe this will be a versatile bag that can be used in the early spring and fall as well. I have currently been using it where night time temperatures have been as low as 40 degrees and I have been warm, but have not gotten extremely overheated with it. As mentioned, I really wanted a bag that could unzip to a nice quilt and this one excels at that- I got the long model, and it covers the bed nicely.
Overall I am much more impressed with the quality and comfort than I thought I would be. This bag should last a long time and I look forward to it accompanying me on future travels.

The ability of the sleeping bag to adapt to temp and humidity is beyond belief. It covers a HUGE range. I am so impressed by the down tek. It really does work. Temp wise I've only had it down to 30, maybe 20..The shape of the bag is different than previous bags I've had and it is absolutely delightful. I am actively camping in a tent now, but I love this bag so much It will end up in the house.

Have had mine for many years, it is lofty, roomy, soft and silky on the inside yet moisture resistant on the outside. Works well in cold weather (not sure about 0 degrees but definitely the 20s to 30s). I used mine, however, mostly inside and have enjoyed its luxurious comfort napping on my favorite couch or unzipping it, throwing it on the bed and using it as a comforter. My wife makes fun of me by calling it my "Linus blanket" but once our kids started using it as a comforter this past winter, they rave to her how much they love it! Figuring I'll never be able to get it back from them, I broke down and bought a new one yesterday ... this one's for me! It washes well, using a down soap of your choice, and low heat in the dryer returns its loft quickly yet retains its water resistancy. In all, it's a favorite in our home!

I bought this sleeping bag to use while hammock camping. I tried it out in my backyard on 2/8/2014 and it was 25 degrees out. I've heard it said that sleeping bags don't usually keep you as warm as advertised but I'll bet this will come close! Excellent product!

I've owned this bag for 2 years and have used it many times. I have been surprised how warm its been been in temperatures down into the teens. The bag is roomy, lofty, and has held up well.

Rated 2 out of 5áby boatersteve Nice Fit but Cold
If you are like me when you read a temperature rating you think it means what it says, not so with this bag. If Bean was using a "survival rating" rather than "comfort rating" why not say so. While I love the size the temperature rating is way off. I recently was camping in the Frank Church Wilderness of Central Idaho, the temperatures dropped into the mid twenties (above zero) even with fleece sleeping attire I got cold in this bag. Considering LL Bean's reputation for quality I was very disappointed since I wanted a larger, but just as warm, a bag from my mummy bags, this one works only if you add 20 degrees to the temperature rating.
