Rated 3 out of 5 by bgal231 Feeling like Goldilocks
I really wanted to love this bag. It has great features and would probably work wonderfully, if it fit. I've tried both this and a women's Osprey bag, and I'm feeling a bit like Goldilocks. The women's bag was too narrow and rubbed my neck and too short along my back. I'm 5'7", average build. This bag is fine in length but the straps are too wide in the shoulders. I could mitigate that by using the chest strap, if only it weren't placed to fall directly across the middle of my...chest. FYI, the Camelback MULE fit better, and the chest strap is placed *just* high enough to work for me. There's no reason for the straps to be so low. LLBean's own Ridge Runner pack has a higher strap than both of these (thank you!), but the bag was bigger than what I wanted.

I'm trying out this one plus a few others in the same size range and this one feels so great! It hugs my body like a glove and stays in place great. It has awesome pockets that I think will make a lot of things accessible. It is designed for mountain biking therefore doesn't have loops or bungies for trekking poles, but I was able to snuggly secure them anyway. I HAVEN'T tested any of this out yet though. It is a bit small, and I haven't 100% decided if that will be okay for me or not. I often hike in barefoot shoes and carry my boots along. WIth them packed, I can just fit light fleece, long sleeve shirt and fleece pants, first aid and I THINK I will be able to squeeze in enough food. I'm a little iffy on that, but I don't always day hike with that much clothing- only in colder weather in the fall. I could also attach the boots to the outside. Also, a lot of the pockets are made of this stretchy, expandable material, which helps. It is such an awesome pack and I really do want something small that will be easy to scramble on some harder mountains and not have it sliding around or getting caught on things.
