Warm, fitted cuff, and a separate split for the most important finger....Wore these on a birding trip to the Eastern Shore this past weekend and I could write notes, use binoculars and the scope with ease!

We have had great luck with Swix split mitts in the past. The quality of the materials and durability have been excellent over several years of nordic skiing.. Unfortunately the wrist band on these is so tight that it is a real struggle to get your hand inside the mitt. Additionally, we prefer the old style Swix where the mitt was split with two fingers on each side which provides better warmth.

Rated 3 out of 5 by PaddleGirl1 warm, but too tight in the wrist
These mittens are warmer than any of the gloves I currently have and I love the dexterity they allow, while still providing a mitten-style-warmth for 3 fingers.
However, the wrist is very tight, which makes them difficult to get on and off. If they are wet (or your skin is wet), they become extremely difficult to get on/off. I am considering getting a larger size, but I don't want the extra bulk around the fingers as that part fits fine.

I am a 5'5", 120lb woman who has what most people would describe as small hands, but even the large size in these gloves was too small. I have no idea who the designers used as their size model, but not someone like me. Length is not an issue., nor is the room in the finger portion of the glove. The problem is the very narrow, ultra tight wrist space through which you need to wriggle your hand in order to put the glove on. I suppose the designers thought it'd be good for the glove to be snug at the wrist so no air could get in. Ok, good thinking, but you first need to be able to comfortably put the glove ON. When you feel like you are nearly crushing the bones in your palm as you contort your hand to get the mitten on, well, sorry, that's just too small. I recommend getting the men's gloves. My husband has the XL size and huge hands and he has no problem at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by BostonWalker Great Idea...but
I love the idea of these gloves. However the large didn't fit my wrist. I ended up giving them to my sister who is petitie size 4, and they fit her fine in the wrist, but long in the fingers .They are very tight around the wrist. I could barely get them on, and once on, the hurt my wrist to much. Going to try them in a men's size. Wish me luck.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NorthernHeirs Comfortable and waterproof but not warm enough
Ok, so I live in Northern Maine where we currently have 50 to 75 inches of snow on the ground. I bought these mittens specifically for my snow showing activities. The split mittens are great for opening and closing the door on my way outside. Also, the material is so soft and flexible that I can adjust my straps, adjust my sunglasses, wipe the sweat off my forehead, and even tie the string of my bonnet under my chin with ease.
First, I'll give kudos to the llbean crew for answering my question about how to put your fingers in the split mitten. By the next day I got my answer. And that's excellent service.
So I first put on my mittens then I went outside with my snowshoes to break trails thru my huge back yard. Granted, I don't do this during a storm, only when the wind is calm and the sun is shining. I bought these mittens because they were advertised as good for snowshoeing and such. But, I just don't get it! I'm out breaking trails 1 hour a day on sunny days and my hands got chilly while wearing these mittens. I thought it might be caused by lack of blood flow to my hands due to the position of the pole straps so I changed the position of the straps from directly on my wrist to between the thumb and index finger. Still, chilly hands. Perhaps I'll notice their warmth during walks outdoors instead of snowshoeing with poles. I'll give it another try.

I truly like these gloves. I get such cold hands while doing livestock chores and I wanted these to be the answer. They are nice gloves and do a good job, even when I hoped for more. Don't think the gloves are the problem and I may not find the answer to something that keeps my fingers warm and still allows flexibility to move my fingers. Keep in mind that this is coming from a windy area with a few days of a high of 6 degrees!
