Rated 5 out of 5áby Trabehasko Feels good to be dry!
I've been looking for a jacket to keep me dry that I can layer if needed and this one is perfect! I usually buy small and the small for this jacket looks good worn by itself yet is roomy enough for a fleece layer without feeling restrictive. I selected the teal shadow color and it's just right, too. This jacket is everything I expected: lightweight, comfy and I'm dry!

I tried both Stowaway and the Pathfinder jackets at an LL Bean retail store before deciding on the Stowaway. Truth be told, I just got it a few weeks ago and haven't had much opportunity to wear it, but here's my feedback: I found the Stowaway fabric more substantial and I thought the zippers were better constructed. If you intend to layer, I recommend getting a size larger. In my case, a medium would have fit but been snug with a bulky sweatshirt or fleece. (This comment applies to both the Stowaway and Pathfinder.) The Stowaway misses the 5-star range because the Pathfinder had an additional pocket, and pockets always seem to be in short supply in women's clothing. My aquamarine jacket is really kind of a green/blue, like teal. Finally, both have a "noise problem," as I suspect all GoreTex products do. While I can see this as a problem if you're birding or attending the opera, I suspect it's not a deciding factor of many of us.

To be honest, I wasn't sure about this jacket because it was "noisey". It's been over a year and I have to admit that the noise has subsided and it has quickly become my favorite jacket. The Velcro closing is a nice touch to quickly close the jacket...especially for my arthritic hands that have difficulty with snaps. It always looks good and packs well. You'll love it!

Rated 5 out of 5áby domom will keep you dry
Bought this to replace the one I bought 12 years ago. Wore that one all the time, and eventually it was no longer waterproof. This is almost the same, but there are 2 differences I do not care for.
1. hood is stowaway now. This is a rain jacket, how often will you wear it and not use the hood? When the hood is out but you are not wearing it, the collar stands a little funny.
2. Stowaway pocket is now vertical and not horizontal, so the mesh fabric of it is pulled down by gravity and it benches a bit. It seems like it should be tacked to stay up, but then of course you could not fold the jacket into it.

Rated 1 out of 5áby DaleIsInNorway Sub-standard gortex stowaway jacket (woman's)
My third stowaway jacket since the 1980's. Ok-models change, BUT: no two-way zipper, Velcro closures not snaps, material is stiffer, inside pocket inconveniently located so back pack belt/dog belt must be undone, pockets no longer lined with rip-stop nylon and flaps over pocket are on bottom so less protection against rain. Enough said? Oh, and the "royal blue" is more dark blue. Nothing "royal" about it.

Rated 5 out of 5áby quesolover This jacket is amazing.
I hiked up a waterfall and remained dry. I stayed perfectly comfortable in 50+ mile an hour winds, hanging off a ravine, with water gushing down. I sweat much more than the average woman, but this wicked my sweat and kept me dry. Staying dry is really important to me with rain gear, I don't want to sweat buckets in rain gear, cause whats the point of using it, I may as well get rained on:). I'm impressed with how comfortable and dry I stayed. Even in rock climbing, no tears, it's very durable. Packs down small and light. I will continue to purchase this jacket for athletic activities; sailing, hiking, backpacking, etc. I think it may be overkill if you are just wanting an everyday raincoat, unless your gonna be sweating like crazy. I use the trail model for everyday, but the stowaway goretex for sports. I purchased my usual L.L.Bean size. It fits perfectly. I will want to layer with it for late fall hikes. I'm a 34D, between a 38-39" bust, with a 29-30" waist, and I went with a Large. A medium also fit me, but it only would've fit a lightweight fleece under, like a fitness fleece and a thin tee. I wanted to fit a very heavy weight fleece under, in late Fall to early Winter, so I went with my usual size, it is sized for layering. I bought the Navy, a pretty Navy that matches other Navy's, but isn't so dark it doesn't go nice with black or Brown. If you do not want to layer, just want an everyday raincoat for summer over a tank or tee, maybe size down one size, I would've went with the Medium if I wanted it for spring/summer only.

Rated 5 out of 5áby aprilkeefe Love it! Want in every color!
I love this jacket. I bought it after my roomie ordered the long version (which I also plan on buying soon) and I do not regret it! I got the cherry, which is a gorgeous color (more pink than the name suggests) and with the Gore-Tex, it is truly a waterproof coat. It's perfect for a college campus when you don't want to lug an umbrella around. It fit true to size and I'd definitely recommend it!

Just received my jacket and it's a perfect fit. I am a petite size and found everything to be just the right length, including the sleeves. You can really rely on the sizing chart provided. Oh and the aquamarine color in this garment is absolutely beautiful. Thank you LL Bean for offering a lot of items in Petite.

I think this is a five star jacket if it fits. I am so so disappointed as I had this on my wish list for months and took advantage of a drop in price and threw all my coupons at it. The color is just what i wanted, the jacket in a small is my size in everything but the hood which is just too short so that when i put in on the jacket pulls up and the hood doesn't cover well my face; feels like it is falling off even with the adjustable tab on the head released. I'm 5'6.5" - really just on the high end of average height. I've never had this problem with a rain jacket in other brands.

Rated 2 out of 5áby NYgal Not so nice anymore
I bought this jacket some time ago, in a bright green color. At first it was wonderful - it still keeps me dry even though it gives me a 'clammy' feeling. Very noisy as some reviewers have noted. The hood is oversize, with an 'overhand' which does keep your head dry; however with that comes drip page onto your chest and eyeglasses. My main complaint is the zippers: I cannot tell you how many times the pocket zippers have gotten jammed, either with the mesh pockets, which seem too large for the space, or with the edge of the cloth where the zippers are sewn. The front zipper, which on my jacket is one- way, also gets stuck repeatedly with the cloth lining. This lining seems to hang over the edge of the zipper, the lining seems to be larger than the jacket. And the Velcro tabs on the front have never stayed closed. Give me snaps or buttons. I kept the jacket because it has kept me dry, but frankly I wish I had sent it back the first time the zippers got stuck. I now have one useless pocket because the fabric tore in trying to get the zipper open. For the price - the design should have been better executed. I have since purchased a genuine English waxed cotton jacket which is better made, has brass zippers which never get stuck, a removable hood, large deep pockets and an available liner. Keeps me drier and not clammy.
