I replaced my >25 yo full-fledged, LLBean rabbit fur trapper hat that was finally shredding apart and is no longer offered, with this new, non-LLBean version made in China. It fits and feels great, with some excess shedding of the fur.

I bought two of these hats after really enjoying the first one but encountering one problem. Firstly they are the warmest hat I've found, absolutely outstanding for low-activity, extremely low temperatures. Feels like your head is enveloped in a wonderfully warm furry embrace. Was out recently on a bird watch, low teens and really brutal wind, but felt protected the whole time. Putting a balaclava on underneath really keeps the cold away.
Having said that the clip that keeps the two ear flaps closed under the chin is made out of cheap plastic that breaks at the drop of a ....well, you know. LLBean really needs to get a better supplier, or whoever manufactures the hat originally does. I've had repeated problems with prongs on the male clip breaking off, rendering the clip useless. When this happened most recently only a few days before a cold snap I ordered another one from LLBean (got here in only two days, in time for the drop in temps - Thank You LLBean shipping!!), then ordered two metal replacement clips from another website. They cost about 57 cents each, and I just sewed the female one on (the male one you can just run the strap through the clip bindings.) If I run into similar problems with the second hat will do the same, or might be more proactive and switch out the clip ahead of time.
Ultimately am happy to keep both hats (now that they're fully functional), and might put one in my car as a spare.
They'll protect you from the cold but consider sewing/stitching on your own clips for a longer life.

The mad bomber is really , really warm! Very wind proof, and the blowing snow does not penetrate.

My rating for this mad bomber is excellent. Since I work outside it keep me very warm, waterproof. I would recommend this hat for those who would be in the elements for quite a while.

I was excited to unpack and try on my new hat. The fur is real and warm. Was a little confused with the chin strap clasp at first. It is used to strap the flaps under the chin, but also clasped upside down on the crown of the head to keep flaps up and out of the way. In addition to the fur, the skull cap is insulated. Additional short ear flaps can be buttoned up or down to reveal or cover sound holes in the long ear flaps. The fur brow can be unsnapped and lowered as well. Well made and crafted. Many options of wear. Hope to use for a long time. 5 stars if it were made in USA.

I got this for my husband for Christmas in black. He already owns one in green I got him last year for shoveling snow or going for daily walks. He decided since it does such a good job of keeping his head and especially his ears warm, that he'd like another one in a more dignified color to wear to work. The black one matches his coat, bingo. Since we awoke this morning to wind chill @ minus 7 degrees F, he's very happy to have it. The hats repel rain and wind too. I'm not thrilled that it's lined with genuine rabbit fur, but the man needs a decent, warm hat, and this is the nicest one I could find.
