Rated 4 out of 5 by GreggP Good quality, but small size
Ordered these since I am working in Afghanistan at camps, where it is nothing but gravel. Seem quite tough. The sizes are smaller than I thought. The largest ones seems like a large, not an extra large.
The real problem is the "medium" duffle. No more than 55% of a standard carry on to a plane. Could not put in 3 days of clothes. flying on helicopters you are limited in what you can bring on, and I was unpleasantly surprised that I had to use another bag and leave this tough one. It is so small that you really don't need tough wheels, since the weight would not be much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by drea9923 Great Luggage Set
I purchased this luggage set for a work trip to the Netherlands. The luggage is very rugged and did a great job of protecting my stuff. The large duffel holds quite a bit and even when CRAMMED (I mean, I filled this thing with 2 weeks of both work and casual clothes) it was easy to manage/pull through an unfamiliar airport. The medium duffel is significantly smaller, but it is meant to be carry-on sized. I easily fit my work laptop (13"), laptop accessories, snacks, slippers, neck pillow into it. The guide bag is smallish, but it still easily held my iPad, Kindle, passport, cell phone, wallet, some snacks and my Amsterdam city maps with some room to spare. I also read the full description before purchasing which has the size of the luggage, so I'm unsure why some reviewers were so surprised about the sizes?
I was traveling by myself so the pack straps came in extra handy... I was toting the large duffel on the rollers while wearing the medium as a backpack with the guide bag slung over my shoulder. All in all, this was a great set and did everything (and then some!) that I had expected it to. No rips, no tears.
Also, for storage, it's nice that the medium duffel fits into the large one and, because they're duffels, it's easy to find a place to store it and it doesn't have a huge footprint.

I just returned from a working vacation, flying from OR to Chile and back via Argentina & Atlanta. The luggage held up well and was quite visible in the baggage claim areas. (My orange choice is noticeable!)
Two things I'd suggest being changed. 1.The security straps could extend beyond the lower zippers on the big bags to the base/back framework of the bag. This would provide insurance of closure should a zipper break-which is possible given the handling of bags and unlikely with the weight of the zipper. and 2.Replace that little expedition carry bag with one larger. It's OK for a few things but the LLBean passport case barely fits in it and the front pocket is all but useless as nothing once placed inside is visible. the front could be made with gussets and the zipper at an angle to allow wider opening. It does work well for shore excursions when one doesn't want to carry a lot of stuff. Water bottle pocket is marginally sized and the shoulder strap is flimsy. I'd suggest replacing the bag with the messenger bag as part of the luggage'set'.
Surfaces wipe clean of smudges easily and the wheels are large enough to roll easily over uneven walkways. The handles at the bottom are very helpful when lifting the luggage onto or off a carrier. I'm happy with the set and will replace the tiny bag once the matching backpack arrives.
Overall I'm pleased with the set and expect many years of use from it. This is my first new set of luggage in nearly 30 years.

I just got back from a trip to several places in southern Africa. These bags were great - the large one took an obvious pounding on one of my plane trips, but none of the zips were compromised (just got a bit muddy). My only suggestion though is that the guide-bag should be a little bigger (at least 15" wide) - the picture makes it look bigger than it really is. Other than that, great bags!

To be honest what drew me to this bag collection was the color, I am a huge fan of Orange but I also like the styling of this bag. After watching the LL Bean video on the product testing for there bags I decided to give my bags the go ahead. Took the medium one out for a quick trip to Las Vegas and it was perfect for 3 days worth of clothes. The wheels rolled easily over everything. Zippers operated smoothly and the bag stayed standing even thought it was full. Looking forward to taking them on my next adventure. Hawaii

It look totally different when you get your stuff. The picture shows big enough.but in real medium one and the small one is totally unexpected.Very small. The biggest one is ok.I like it.I regret buying all three.I should have bought just the biggest one and save my rest of the money i spend on other two.And i didn't got any sale.It was regular price.I won't recommend to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nukeworker Love my new luggage!
I purchased the Expedition Luggage set for a 6 week trip to Eastern WA State for work. I packed clothes for 7+ days including a heavy winter coat, heavy sweaters, sweatshirts & my steel-toed work shoes. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! It's very lightweight, holds more than I imagined it would, has lots of zippered compartments, and after 6 airplane rides still looks like brand new! It was very easy to roll both bags with no trouble at all. The guide bag is perfect for holding my Ipad, boarding passes, wallet, keys, etc. I actually used this as my "purse". I chose the dusty olive color and it's very easy to spot on the luggage carousel. I'm going again in July for 6 weeks. I already know what luggage I'm taking!

I ordered the set for my husband for Christmas. He loved the look and the ruggedness of the set. We just returned from a ski trip and the luggage performed superbly. Lots of room for gear and it wheeled well thru the airport, parking lots, snow, etc... We did lose one of the zipper pulls but customer service is working on sending us a replacement.

Rated 4 out of 5 by HandymanExtraordinaire Very nice set, could be better though.
Initially everything looks well built with a thoughtful design. I like the large zippers and built in corner pockets that hold the shoulder straps. Taken on several flights so far and everything is holding up well. A great amount of space in the large suitcase. I think the design and color scheme makes for an attractive luggage set.
The downsides I have with this set are that the small bag has very limited usefulness for me. I think it would be more appropriate to include the $89 Expedition Messenger bag. Also the likelihood I will actually use the shoulder straps on the large suitcase are slim. I think the bag is to big as a backpack and it will likely be to heavy to carry it comfortably. Because of all of these small dislikes, I knocked off a star, mainly because of the small tote bag that has little usefulness.
Attractive design and color schemes
Rugged exterior, built tough.
Plenty of room in large suitcase for most people.
Rolls and stands upright well.
Cons: (These aren't major dealbreakers)
Plastic snaps are strong but not sure on long term durability. (Not to worried about it though with LLBean guarantee)
Small personals bag has limited usefulness.
Shoulder straps on large suitcase have limited usefulness.
