After years of drooling over this tent I convinced my husband to purchase it and new camping equipment instead of staying in a hotel while at a weekend history reenactment. It was spring break and we took our two children along for the weekend. This tent could not have performed any better! We actually purchased this and a competitor's tent (think 3 letters). This was by far the easiest to set up and offered everything we wanted. While camping we had a 30 minute hailstorm and followed by about 12 hours of rain through the night. We were unfortunately on a slab at the campground and water was running all around us. We did not have one drop inside the tent nor was it damaged by the hail. Our beds stayed warm and cozy all night. I did give a 5 but I do make this observation - if I had it to purchase again I would have purchased the 6 person tent for my family of four. The tent fit a queen size air mattress which 3 of us slept on. We could not fit the twin mattress in too. So, one of the kids slept on a camp pad each night which is not a big deal but we would have like to have been able to have everyone on an air mattress. If you are only using sleeping bags and pads you should have enough room though it is still tight. Great tent. Would purchase again. Oh! Make sure you get the footprint. We are headed out again this weekend and can't wait to get the tent set up.

I did a lot of research before buying this tent. Purchased it for my daughter and her fiancÚe. it hasn't been tried yet so I can't speak about how it works but I liked the features and especially the LL BEAN guarantee. If they don't like it they can take it back.
I can only rate it as good because I haven't tried it.

On our first trip with the tent we had an unexpected storm that proved the strength of the construction in 50 MPH wind gusts over several hours. The first round of wind pulled up most of the stakes which needed to be replaced with metal stakes to hold firmly in the dry California dirt. After that everything held well and all the clips and Velcro connections proved their value.
A floor in the screen room would improve the design a lot because dirt blew in and the dog learned to squeeze under the front, a big pain. I think the closed-up screen room also filled with wind from underneath, like a parachute, and helped pull the plastic stakes out. The guy ropes' sliders did not hold tight in the gusting winds. I reviewed the video and confirmed that they were set up correctly.
We inadvertently tested the tent under pretty extreme conditions and everything held together, after that first exciting lift-off.
I'm getting a real mallet because the one included was useless in the hard, dry dirt. I had to use a rock.
The tent bag is too small. I couldn't get everything back into it, even at home under perfect conditions.
There are lots of zippers and ties and features that are not described in the instructions. I would like to know what they all are and how they work. The setup video helped a lot. A breakdown video would be useful, as well as a video tour of the tent features.
The tent is 5 stars, but I recommend replacing the stakes, bag and mallet.

I just set up the King Dome 4-man tent in the backyard. I did it myself without much difficulty. One of the fiberglass poles broke, however, through no abuse of mine. I'm hoping someone at Bean will see this and replace it! Despite this, however, I wholeheartedly recommend this tent. I also ordered the footprint. The screen-porch feature is exceptional. It's largely the reason why I bought this model. Now that I have the tent set up, I see that it's exactly what I'd hoped for.

I went on a 2day fishing trip up to Chain of Ponds. I didn't have the chance for a pre set up practice. However the built in directions were helpful. The rain fly was a little tricky alone but I got it on OK. I set the tent on a blue tarp and was surprised that the screen room with the fly on was like another room with the tarp acting as the floor. Plenty of storage. Oh yes, it did rain. Plenty of tie downs for windy weather. Can't wait for next summer.

Had this tent in Minnesota Boundary Waters last week. I was in for eight days. Had heavy rain for three of these days. Not a leak anywhere. Strong winds for two days. I could not have been more satisfied with this tent.

We used the King Pine Dome tent in August on our camping trip. When we were setting up the tent the front plate on the hammer that came with the tent broke. We had another one, the exact same design, in our LL Bean shelter. That one has lasted us for over 10 years. I called LL Bean and they will replace the hammer at no charge. Just check the hammer out before going on a trip. The only other problem was exiting the tent and figuring out which zipper to use. It did rain. We had the footprint underneath the tent. Water had pooled under the sleeping area outside between the tent and the footprint, but we were dry. The screened porch had a few small puddles only. We really enjoyed this tent!

Rated 4 out of 5áby jdel42 Roomy and comfortable
On the plus side, the tent is roomy with the "front room" where you can store shoes and stuff, which helps keep the tent clean. It is reasonably easy to put up with the color coded connecting points; the fly requires two persons. With an open screened ceiling the tent is really not a cold weather tent unless well-equiped with good sleeping bags. Also, because of the screened ceiling, I wonder how one can put it up during a rain storm without getting the inside of the tent wet. I never got a chance to test it in very windy or very wet conditions but it looks like it can take it.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Mirrya Easy to set up and take down!
Finally set up the tent this weekend after purchasing it a few weeks ago. Set up was a breeze and took under 5 minutes and that includes setting up the footprint as well. Taking it down was very fast as well. What would make this tent better would be if the screen room had an attached floor as well. That way it would be more difficult for bugs to get in.....I didn't have a problem with bugs in the sleeping room but did have to catch a few spiders in the screen room and take them back outside. We used twin size inflatable mattresses for more comfortable sleeping. If you plan to do that as well I'd purchase the larger 6-person model since this one will not fit 4 people with mattresses. For 2 people it's great...you still have plenty of room for gear. Can't wait to use the tent again next weekend.

Great tent, well thought out but the little hammer I got with it is a joke. I used my axe. Save yourself some money and get rid if the hammer!
