Rated 3 out of 5 by rchev Snug!!!
I am 6-2, normally wear 44-tall...which is what I originally ordered. It was waaaay too snug, sleeves were quite short. Seemed designed for guys with a six-pack--not me, but I ain't a fattie.
So--back to Bean, which handled the return, I must say, flawlessly. Let's try 46-long...oops. Just barely long enough in the sleeve, still pretty snug...and being almost-all cotton, I dreaded washing this item...forget the "straight out of the dryer" stuff. Be a miracle if it doesn't shrink.
Problem is--it's a really great-looking and useful coat. So--it's back for a 48-tall. I'll update.

I am 5' 11" and 180 lbs - 42" chest and 35" waist w/ 34" shirt arm lgth....normally wear a size 42 reg. and, after reading the reviews, ordered a sz 40, thinking that these jackets were oversized...it was too snug and the upper arms room was insufficient...I returned it for a sz 42 which fits pretty snug with "just enough" waist and upper arm clearance for it to look "fitted"...I am 73 yrs old and like my sport coats to fit loose, not snug on my shoulders, chest and waist like most of the younger men wear today...this one fits me more like what I just described, but I do like it...will not wear anything other than a single thin shirt underneath...so, the 42 was a "small" 42, but the 40 seemed to be the correct size...good luck!

Rated 4 out of 5 by richgar sizing and style info
I'm 5'10.5" and 180, usually wear 42R, and ordered 42R.
It was clearly a size too large. I returned it for a 40R which was just right and still has a bit of extra room for a light sweater underneath. The sleeves are still about 1/2" longer than expected, but this makes it a little more useful as an outdoor jacket, so I consider it a reasonable compromise.
I called customer service about the potential for shrinkage and the nice lady said I should expect very little shrinkage as long as I follow the label and wash in warm, not hot, water. (LLBean should include shrinkage info in their descriptions.)
As to styling,
- I absolutely agree with those who would like this jacket even more without the false pleats on the outside pockets. Yes, I'm going somewhere hot; no, I don't need to look like I'm on safari. Or in the army. This jacket is versatile and good-looking. Without that decoration it would be even more so.
- Despite its Euro-style double vents it is quite American-style in body shape, that is to say boxy, not trim. A tailor could probably adjust that if you want.

I have been looking at this sports coat for years and finally bought it. I liked the look and feel. It's a little tight in the shoulders. I am returning the coat because I wear a 46 Short and had to order a 46 Regular, 46 Short is not offered! The regular coat is too long and altering is not practical. When a 46 Short is offered, I will try it again. Hint. Hint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TravelingJack Stylish, Comfortable with Pockets Aplenty
I bought the jacket for an upcoming trip with the idea that I could throw it on and spiff up my outfit. But it's so dang comfortable that I've been wearing it to work, and even after work.
The jacket fits perfectly. I didn't have any problems with the sleeves like other people have had.
The best thing is all the pockets. I put my camera in one pocket, a reporter's notepad in the other, and I still have a whole bunch of empty pockets waiting to be filled. That will be a great feature when I travel. I'll be able to carry my camera, mini-tripod, notebook, guidebook, maps, tickets, candy, gum, assorted trinkets, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MIWA Tropic Weight Sportscoat
I read approx 20 reviews before I decided to purchase this coat. My purchase fit like a glove. I'm 5'6" tall with a 42 chest, 32 waist, 15.5 neck, and 33" sleeves.
Here's why it fit so well: I checked the size chart to find that I needed a 42 Short for these dimensions.
Most of the reviews I read stated that the individual was 6' 2" and takes a XL. Or I'm normally a Reg L in coat sizes. There was no mention of what your specific dimensions/size was, so the review was not helpful at all.
Please take the time to include this pertinant information in future reviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by EasternOntario Great travel blazer with secure pockets
I needed a jacket for our September trip to Italy, where it can still be late summer hot. We had planned a few special events and I wanted a smart look without packing extraneous items.
I could not find anything locally and went online. The LL Bean Tropic-Weight Blazer is a winner. Lightweight and comfortable with secure pockets to keep your documents safe.
I usually wear a 42R jacket and 15 1/2 x 33 shirt but after reading LL Bean's sizing suggestions I ordered the 42S. It is a pretty good fit especially for off the rack.
After a month away (airline flights, trains, boats, taxis, etc.), my jacket was still relatively wrinkle free. I washed the jacket with the regular laundry and was amazed at how good it looked when I took it out of the clothes dryer, ready for its next trip or local jaunt.
I recommend it highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LonesumPolcat As usual--great product!
Once again, I received an excellent piece of clothing from L.L.Bean that fits perfectly, looks good, and lives up to its description. This jacket is very lightweight and comfortable and has a nice casual look; not the jacket to use as another blazer (not sure I would wear a tie with it), but perfect for dinner, evening with friends, or class reunion, etc.. At 6'5" and 300 lbs. the fit of anything I buy online is a concern. Not with this jacket; it fits true to size. Overall, this jacket is just what I needed and I would recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ryzen Just Exactly What I Wanted
I was looking for a light weight jacket to use in casual situations. This jacket fills that role very well - In fact the first place I wore it, I was complemented and asked where I got it. Fit was perfect, looks like it will stay that way for a long time. With cooler weather approaching, I expect to be using it many more times..

Rated 4 out of 5 by SamTheMinuteMan Good casual jacket for warm weather
Overall a great purchase. Really comfortable fabric for commuting, breathes well for working during the summer months. I bought it just in time for a heat wave and was very grateful. The abundance of pockets, inside and out, makes this a useful jacket.
The fit of this jacket was slightly larger for me than the Town & Field Blazer's. I bought both, in 36 Short, at the same time. T&F fits like a glove, but Explorer feels wider and the sleeves seem longer.
The mesh pocket inside right breast isn't very useful. It would have been better to have a regular pocket in that side too.
Very satisfied overall. Good casual blazer to have on hand for spring, summer, and early fall in New England.
