I purchased this for my son when he started 4th grade, as the homework load increased-so did the weight of what he was bringing home. This is our 5th year using the SAME book bag - it is great! He just began 8th grade and it is still accommodating all of his his work, lunch, drink bottles, calculator, etc. I bought a 2nd for child number 2 and he is on his 3rd year w/ it and am getting ready to buy a 3rd one for my daughter. They are built to last, durable, the adjustable handle makes it easy for them to navigate, zippers have never broken and it carries everything they need! Highly recommend!

This backpack has been amazing for my daughter. She has a back condition that keeps her from being able to carry heavy loads in her backpack. This pack looks great, rolls very well and is so durable!

I don't usually write a review but I must say my investment in this bag is totally worth it.
I bought this bag when my daughter was entering 2nd grade. She will be in 5th grade this fall and this bag is still holding up. The wheels are working just fine - we roll it to and from school - in the mud and in the snow. The zipper does get stuck sometimes but nothing major. ( It did not break!
There is a little wear and tear but nothing major.
I am so happy with this bag and so proud to tell people
that I never spent anymore money on other school bags.
I bought my son a similar bag ( a little bigger) when he was in 1st Grade and he will be in 3rd grade this fall. That bag is still in perfect condition - and my son has been rough with it.
I am sure we'll keep using it until he gets tired of it - hopefully when he is done with 8th grade. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 Best backpack ever...only one problem
My kids loved these, they have lasted for years.
I bought one for my son that lasted for a few years of grade school and all through middle school and still looked brand new. The only reason he stopped using it was because he outgrew it and needed to carry more books in high school.
Also got one for my daughter that has lasted several years of grade school, but now it won't fit in her middle school locker. It still looks brand new. : (

I agree with other users that the negatives regarding this pack are the lack of a water bottle holder and zipper closure covering. My daughter forget to close her water bottle completely and twice we were left with wet books and saturated folders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BOOMERETTE CARRY-ON
I purchased one of these several years ago to use as an airplane carry-on. It hasn't let me down yet. The 2 front pockets are good for easy access to reading & writing materials or snacks; the main compartment holds a light set of overnight necessities "just in case" I get stuck at some airport ! The wheels make it SO MUCH EASIER when I have to run for a connecting flight! The size is just right for the overhead compartment & the different designs are easy to find should you need to check it at the plane door. It has held up wonderfully. My ONLY COMPLAINT is that a purse doesn't balance when slung over the handle; it hangs. Others think it's great idea :) I may purchase another to better match my new luggage !

Rated 5 out of 5 by ColleenMP Greatest rolling backpack I've had.
This backpack has served me probably for 4-5 yrs now and I am finally thinking of replacing it. I use it to bring everything I need to and from work every day from my car at the trolley station and then to my place of work and back again. I had worn out 2 previous rolling backpacks before-literally wearing the wheels in half-but the in-line skate wheels on the LL Bean bag have really held up. They have taken a beating as I'm constantly rolling over rough asphalt and tracks to my office and back to catch the trolley home. I wish I could replace those as the rest of the bag is in pretty good shape (except for the zipper on the main pocket which has two points where the zipper is not easy to close any more). I do see that the new bags don't have the mesh pockets on the sides and I have to concur with those comments that they did sag due to the pocket not being deep enough. Maybe in the future they can be added again only deeper. Definitely the right size to go on a plane or train and great for short trips. I'll gladly buy another of these bags in the near future.

I am so impressed with my shopping experience with the L.L. Bean company that I am taking the time to shout it to the world!! I purchased two Carryall Rolling Gear Bags and a Deluxe Rolling Bookpack long ago. After years of use the telescoping handle from the bookpack no longer functioned properly and there was a tear in a top seam. One of the wheels from the Carryall Rolling Gear Bag no longer rolled properly and was flipping from side to side making it a hassle to use. I am a working musician and use these great bags for my gear. I called customer service. They sent me a return shipping label and are replacing both bags free of charge. They are courteous helpful polite and positive. They care about quality and customer relations. They are a pleasure to deal with and I highly recommend this company and their products to everyone. You can not loose, win/win! Rock On L. L. Bean. I should write a happy blues song for them! Octavia BluesQuality merchandise service & guarentees! Win/win!

Rated 2 out of 5 by JLH1978 Love the idea of this, didn't work for us
Positive: The backpack is very sturdy and attractive. The handle works well and the idea is great.
Negative: It is too wide and stiff (due to the hard board in the back) for my daughter (who is 6 years old and only 42 lbs) to get on the bus and fit down the aisle so she can't use it. She also struggled to get the straps tucked in and they got stuck in the wheels and frayed (almost all the way through). It is really expensive.
