Loved this bag however returned it because I got it for my husbands one night travels for work and it was too big for him for just one night business trips. Is perfect for several days and nights away though which he does not need it for. When he travels for one night for work he carries technology equipment with him and a garment bag for a suit so this bag just would have been too much to take as well. If needed for an extended trip would have kept it for him but we already have a duffle and suitcase for that purpose so did not need it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by topping disappointed, needs improvement
disappointed. It is VERY good looking, and well made, however.....it is NOT extra large in size, but more like average@!!! It was too late to return it, and besides, i had it initialed to make it more easily identifiable, as I travel frequently to Montana and S. America for fishing. The only other complaint is that there is only ONE zipper on the sides, which makes it easy for anyone to open it and get into the center (which yu can lock!) Poor design for travel, esp. these days.

This is the second time i have purchased a rolling gear bag, The last one i obtained over 10 years ago, and while other pieces of luggage have succumbed to our active travel lifestyles, the rolling gear bag has weathered the test of time and travel. We decided we would buy another one, so my wife and I know we won't need to buy other piece of luggage during our retirement years. Love the separate area to keep our shoes, and amazed how much will fit into this bag. On 90% of our trips, this is only piece of luggage i need to bring for a week or longer stay.

My nephew picked this one for his birthday. He loves the roominess and "guy" appeal. The bag is rugged, handsome and looks like it will wear for years. He's happy with his choice.

Worked ok for 3-week trip thru 3 countries and many cities in Europe. Survived baggage handlers well. Downsides: I) does not stand up on its own unless it is stuffed full, which tends to risk exceeding luggage weight limits; II) no internal tie down straps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Audrey937 NOT TOO BIG
When my husband and I were married last year, we received so many gifts including a nice (feminine) luggage set. After packing for Europe, I realized my husband did not have durable, gender-neutral luggage, so I purchased the navy LL BEAN SPORTSMAN ROLLING GEAR (XL) for him on a whim. I had our last name engraved in light brown.
After placing my order, I started reading reviews and began to worry that the bag would be too big... It is large, but perfect for him or for us to combine our clothes for shorter trips. No, this piece of luggage will not stand up alone unless it is full, but that is not an issue for us. Whenever I have used a duffel bag, I have never had the expectation that it would stand vertically when it is designed to be set down horizontally.
There are several pockets and the zippers are durable. I especially like the bottom compartment for packing shoes (which are usually so hard to squeeze in).
We look forward to using this piece for many years to come.

I love this bag. It holds more "stuff" than most suitcases this size. I love the drop bottom section and the end section for those items you just don't want in the main part of the suitcase.
This bag rolls easily both extremely full and half empty and I love how it can stand on it's end. Not many duffles or cloth bags can do that. I highly recommend this bag and the complimentary monogramming.

Bought one of these in navy for my son in college to travel to and from school with - he loves it, holds so much and is very attractive. He is 6'4" and has no problem with the handle either. Bought another for my other son for Christmas and he loves his too!

Looks very nice and TRULY very large which is what my son needs for college. HOWEVER, it is a Christmas gift so we haven't tried it yet BUT I can tell you it totally topples over empty, it can not stand up to be stored in the closet, and as others stated may be a real problem when being used. It'll have to go back if that happens since no one will want to spend layovers holding it up when it's full...bad enough it'll be covered in dog hair if it needs to be stored lying flat in his apartment.

Finished my first trip with this bag. Love the compartments and ability to sort items. It needs to be fully packed though to take advantage of the stand-alone feature. It carries a lot and since I need to carry a lot for my job this isn't a problem for me. For light trips it would probably be overkill unless you're sharing a carry-on for a trip with someone else.
