Rated 5 out of 5 by EmDy A bit tall, great bike
I originally bought this for my 5'6 husband, but I (5'7 f) now ride it to work! It was a bit tall for him so we changed the seat at a bike shop, and now that I ride it, it's just fine. We had some trouble assembling it and called the LL Bean number and without being asked for verification that I bought the bike from them, I immediately got advice. We fumbled for a while so took it to a bike shop and they quickly fixed my mistakes (we put the front on backwards, go us!). I couldn't be happier with LL Bean service or this bike.

I bought mine in April 2011 and my wife got hers a month later. We ride a couple times a week and on weekends. We do some minor trail riding, but mostly ride in the local park on bike trails.
We bought our bikes at the local LL Bean store, so I can't comment on build. But I can say that both bikes are easy to maintain. I've owned bikes my whole life and after three years of regular riding, I can say this is a great bike for the price, even better if you do what we did and buy on sale.
It's not at thousand dollar, top of the line bike. But, if you are looking for a reasonably priced touring bike, this bike gives a lot of value for the price, even at "full sticker".
I do a full-blown tune-up every six months (I have a home exercise mount) since I "ride" year round. Other than that, it's about basic maintenance -- once over on main components to tighten anything loose and tire pressure check before each ride, a monthly lube and check of wheels, brake pads, tires, chain, gears, etc. Usually, there is not much work needed, which is nice.
I've had to true the wheels a few times, and replace brake pads, but that's normal wear and tear.

the bike needed much more adjusting than I thought necessary , wheels were not true, flat tire within 2 miles because of rough spoke end piercing rubber lining thus piercing tube, tube and lining replaced at bike shop after a 3 mile ride to bike shop with her tire on my back, consistant knock in front sprocket of male bike ( I ordered 1 of each ), seat to post will not stay locked in place well. overall not the quality that I've been used to and come to expect from an LLBean product

GREAT BIKE. Sturdy, very nice design. Very easy to assemble. Rides like a charm. Shifts very smoothly. I like the hybrid design that allows you to sit more upright; tires and frame are not too heavy or light -- right in between for neighborhood cruising.

I purchased this bicycle in Autumn 2010 but didn't start using it until about 2.5 years later. I am around 6' 3", 215lbs and 50 years old. The XL fits me pretty well, although I had to extend the seat more than I expected. I did not find assembly difficult. Gears allow climbing hills without too much straining, and shifting among them is not difficult. Adjustable handlebar height and angle has been a plus. The seat is relatively comfortable but still felt like a bed of nails towards the end of my first long trail ride (I did not wear padded bike shorts, thinking that the seat was cushy enough). The bike is as light or lighter than a friend's expensive, trendy brand. I thought the bike was fine for a day out on a nearby "rail trail" (packed earth, crushed stone, a few bumps, and some mud). On my first long ride (55 miles on the rail trail), the bearings in one of the pedals went bad. Bean had replacement pedals to me (for free) within a week. Really appreciated that. I have taken some short runs in nearby neighborhoods (paved roads), and the bike has been fine for this. If I were going to ride longer distances on paved roads, I would consider using a bike with narrower tires. I have purchased some snap-on mud guards from Bean for rainy/muddy conditions. I will review them after some use.

I love this bike - it's so comfortable. I get a lot of compliments and people are surprised to know that LL Bean sells bicycles.

The assembly was alright, but after you get the breaks and everything tightened well you should be fine that was my only problem. And the medium is one inch too high for me with the reflector on so I took it off no big deal to some people but that little drop made it comfortable for me. Great bike it's ll bean can't go wrong buy this bike if you need something that you want to last and get you around smoothly.

My wife and I are in our low-mid 50's and not exactly fanatical athletic types, but we wanted something that would keep us active and be enjoyable at the same time. We originally saw these bikes in the store on sale, but we had no way to get them home at the time. We looked around for something similar at other bike and sports shops, but nobody had exactly the same thing in any price range, let alone at this one. We finally got a good bike rack and pulled the trigger on two of these Acadia's -- a men's and a woman's.
These bikes are very comfortable for casual riders like us without being 'old farty' -- more cushy than road bikes and even other hybrids, and easier rolling than mountain bikes. They're not too heavy, and the mechanicals -- brakes, shifters, derailleurs -- work flawlessly and smoothly. There's a huge range of gears, including super-low that I swear would allow you to go vertical. Both the seat post and front fork are sprung to help take up the shock if the road gets bumpy, features we found very rare in other models at this price point.
We are both extremely happy with this purchase.

I have only taken it out once but the bike ride was smooth and comfortable. Instructions were clear. Gears worked smooth. I think the bike was priced right.
