I was so excited to purchase this vest. I was so disappointed when I received it! Just not up to the quality I am used to from L.L. Bean. The concept is fantastic, particularly since I am a woman and have enormous difficulty finding hunting clothes and footwear. First off, it is a little cumbersome. The belt around the bottom is almost useless. And it is SMALL. Even for me - a woman. The sides do not eXpand; should be webbing instead of snaps. Once the snaps are unfastened it loses a lot of support. The pocket for radio/cell phone was too small. And far too many straps. Most of them were unnecessary. SO disappointed... if anyone knows where I can go to get good female gear would you please let me know? Men tell me all the timw that I should just buyer smaller men's sizes. Well, that doesn't work. Women are not built like men...

Rated 5 out of 5 by GWSloan Great Vest!!
I have always wanted to have one item that I could grab along with my rifle, and be ready to go...this vest is it. I packed it with ammo, a waterproof box with matches and firestarter (in the removable backpack pouch), a knife, a flashlight, my radio, my GPS, a first aid kit, spare batteries, and a small pair of binoculars. Saves looking for all that stuff in pockets. I leave this vest "loaded" all the time and just hang it in the closet between hunting seasons.

Concept is good. When I saw it in the store, I thought this was the perfect thing for deer hunting in WI. Quality of construction seems to be just fine.
Operationally, not so much.
- Too small...and I'm not a big guy. 5''7" and 190. Barely fit me. Put a jacket underneath it and the fitment is barely there.
- Too much going on. Pockets are all over the place...which you'd think would be a good thing. Too much of a good thing can be a detriment.
- I felt like I was going to fall over with all the filled pockets on the front. I was constantly fidgeting with the things in the pockets...they were in the way.
- It would get twisted, bunched up, etc.
I'm going back to a backpack.

The concept is great with lots of good features and some that need improvement. The vest is very comfortable even when fully loaded. For the most part, the pockets are well thought out. I've found it to be sort of a evolution process moving things around to find the best place for things. Areas that could use improvement are the removable pouch on the back. When I walk into a stand I normally do not wear a insulated top to prevent overheating. It needs to be just a little larger to better accomidate such things. Velcro to hold the shoulder panels together once adjusted would be nice. A water bottle pouch is needed. The velcroed radio/phone pouch needs to be larger. The belt(if even needed)should be a simple wader type belt much easier to adjust. The supplied belt is a bear to get right if you switch to a bulkier jacket. I don't even use a belt and find it much easier. If you need to carry extra clothing or whatever you may find removing the back pouch and using a small napsack or lumbar waist pack to be a better option.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DavidD GOOD IDEA BUT NOT WELL DONE
the Vest almost works but has a number of poor design features that prevent it form being really useful. After a two week hunting trip with it ai have some suggestions. One, it is too small for my 44 chest. Two, the size adjustors do not hold, they need to be redesigned completely. Three, the pockets are not the right size for instance the cell phone pocket wis too short for a smart phone. Four, it needs more velcro on pockets so i can design the locations and sizes my self. Five, the snaps for the belt hangers are not tight. Six, the belt is a pain to adjust.

Ok vest, nice pockets, license tab on back, light wt. But- snaps don't hold belt very well, it keeps unsnapping. Size is a bit small, you can unsnap side pannels and make it fit with straps but the side pannels get tucked under when you put it on that way. Plenty of snps but they don't hold real well. The shell holders in the pockets only hold 3 shotgun shells and 3 rifle shells on ea. side; thats not much. Not worth $129.

This is the best Game Vest that I have ever held...but 1 problem. I don't fit the "1 size fits most!" I am 6'3" and
236 lbs. and unfortunately the vest will not fit properly with winter hunting clothes underneath. I had to return the vest. Again, the vest has a big WOW factor but won't fit us big guys. How about making this vest in a "1 size fits bigger people!?

I'm an avid big game hunter who covers alot of country during a single hunt. Consequently, I get overheated and perspire alot. I am always looking for garments that breathe. My clothing consists of polypropelene (UnderArmour), wool, and fleece. When I saw the vest was constructed of mesh, I thought this would be perfect. Unfortunately, this vest was VERY SMALL! I'm a size 44 regular and had difficulty snapping and zipping the vest. When I wear a heavier coat, it's impossible to adjust the vest properly. One would think that after a year of reviews voicing this same complaint, LLBean would make adjustments to this potentially great product. I would also like to see this Ultimate Vest available in orange/camo. Very disappointed!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by GoodHunting Great Hunting Vest!
I hunt deer, elk, and other big game and I have been looking for the right hunting vest for years. I saw this vest last year in the catalog and thought it would perfect for deer and antelope hunting however after reading all the reviews decided it was going to be to small. I saw it again this year read the reviews again and decide to write LLBean about the size. Good customer service they respond to my email in about an hour said the product would fit a person size 36 to 52 chest size and if it didn't fit return it no questions asked. I order the vest it was just what I wanted. I'm a size 46 chest and If you are my size you are going to have to leave the three snaps on each side of the vest unsnapped its just made that way. But the three straps on each side work very well. The vest is very adjustable but it only took me about 10 minutes to get it to fit just the way I wanted it and I wore it that way on my Antelope hunt in August. During Elk season I'll need to adjust the vest to fit over my cold weather gear but it will only take a couple of minutes to adjust. The pockets are great not exactly where I would put everyone of them but they work fine(I sure everyone would do something a little different). My GPS, radio, range finder and other good gear are right at hand. I like the pack on the back it works well for my lunch, snacks, water, and extra gear. It also removes easily if you don't need it. My only complaint was I wish they put a water bottle pocket on the vest.
I wore this vest from 6 in the morning to 8 in evening very day and thought it was very comfortable and well balance. I was hunting in 90 degree weather and was comfortable with it on all day. I was also impressed by the quality of the materials used to make the vest and how well the vest was put together I'll have this vest for a long time. If you are looking for a good big game vest I would recommend this vest to anyone.
I wished I had order the vest last year. I am looking forward to using it during my upcoming deer and elk season.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ThePastor To small for average person
This vest is sized way to small for the average man or women. By adding mesh to the front and back panels along with expansion straps this would be a one size fits all. The length is fine and the pockets are awesome but it just doesn't fit! I hope Bean keeps the vest and reworks the sizing as it is the best vest I have seen in the market for storage and thought of pockets.
