Rated 5 out of 5 by toriz excellent Day Pak
My son teaches physics and this is excellent for him to take to and from classes. Sturdy with plenty of room for his books and equipment. Added plus, it's his school colors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AcademicLifer Great Backpack!
I've been going to college half-time for the last six years, and I practically *live* out my backpack during the semester. Needless to say, I'm rough on a pack, and I've worn out 4 lesser quality ones in the last few years, spending *at least* as much money on those four combined as I did on this L.L. Bean Expedition Day Pack. In fact, that was what prompted the purchase of this pack, when my last one gave up the ghost. With many years of school still ahead of me, I decided to get something that will last.
This pack fits just about everything a college student could want for the day, and even for a shorter person, or one who is not "ideally built," it's comfortable. Where this pack really shines, though, is how it helps with weight distribution! It's amazing! I've probably got close to 35 pounds of stuff in mine, yet with this pack, it only feels like about 15 when it's on my back. I was extremely impressed by that. It hasn't had its water resistance or ripstop capabilities tested yet, but I'm hopeful those'll work just fine when the need arises. On a side note, usually I'm a function over form person, but I have to say, I got the bag in Mariner Blue, and it's a really, really nice color, so bonus points there.
The only reason I'm not giving this bag a full 5 stars is that there is a distinct lack of small organizational pockets. I'm talking about the small ones for pens/pencils, calculators, USB flash drives, sticky note pads, erasers, etc. They're not completely absent, but there are nowhere near enough of them for my liking. There's plenty of room to shove in all the stuff I mentioned, but I, at least, would have the devil's own time finding it later without some additional small compartments to keep things sorted. (I'm solving the problem with the help of a friend who's handy at sewing, and is designing a removable pouch for the bag with the extra pockets I want.)

Great backpack! I have purchased two other pieces of the expedition luggage and they are all high quality, room to spare and very well made

Bought this for my son who needed one to carry laptop for college, for travel, for hiking sometimes. He loves it. It protects his computer well and is comfortable with lots of room for other things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by naturephotographer Great Pack for National Park Trip
I used this pack to travel with my wife for a thirty day trip to the National Parks in the west. It carried my laptop, I Pad and a 6 inch notebook which had all my maps, travel documents, park folders and literature, all the wires for my computers and more. Although it was filled to the top it was comfortable to wear and I can't wait to use it on my next trip!

Rated 2 out of 5 by MIghtyLT Good Idea, Mediocre Execution
I've owned the bag for just over a year an have wanted to write Bean's since I got it because it really is a very lackluster backpack (for those of you that like it, don't get angry - this is based on my experiences).
1) The chest strap dangles annoyingly when not is use. 2) The carry handle is always getting wedged between my back an the bag when I first put it on and since it is so rugged, there is not break-in period. 3) The front pocket is a one-way zipper and is difficult to access when the bag is packed. 4) The laptop compartment is poorly located - hard to access at TSA checkpoint when the back is packed. 5) The bag isn't angled so, when it is packed, it sags considerably and awkwardly. 6) The drop down pocket is not at all useful for carrying much of substance. 7) The water resistance isn't really that great - the front pocket (that holds the cell phone) soaked through in a light drizzle.
LL Bean is usually awesome with backpacks but this one falls shorts and, if I could do it over again would not get this. Yes, it carries stuff... just not in a very organized, accessible manner

I use this pack while I am traveling on business. I fits in the overhead bin on small Rj's. It carries everything I need to have with me when I travel. It has place to put my laptop with enough room for my tablet. It holds up very well, I travel every week and I use this to carry into my meetings. It has separate areas so I can keep my laptop stuff separate from my paperwork with a place to carry my pens and a place for my reading glasses and a pocket that my passport fits in nicely.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GranpaKen Well Made Pack
This back pack is a well made quality back pack that should provide a satisfactory mid size daily need. It is a size that is well designed for travel or day uses in camping and hiking. Very comfortable with good access to special items. Quality is high but so is price .

Rated 4 out of 5 by saddledduck Nice size for me, fabric is a bit light
I am replacing another computer back pack which had slightly heavier fabric. I hope this holds up as well for me. The water bottle pockets are nice and deep. Chose this model over the ridge runner for size. I may travel with up to 3 laptops on occasion. This one should work for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by parviz A goog backpack if you don't need to carry documen
I liked this pack pack and would have kept it if my laptop was the only thing from my office to carry. But I usually carry some documents and a book, plus the usuall stuff (charger, et.). But this pack does not have all the organizing compartments which a mobile office needs. So, I retuned it.
A bit expensive for what it offers.
