Rated 1 out of 5 by PrudentShopper Not up to LL Bean's quality standards
I bought this backpack in Sept 2012 for my child in middle school. I initially loved it due to its size and extra compartments. Since then I have done numerous repairs including sewing the fabric, and replacing the clips that adjust to the hip and then sewing those down because they are so poorly affixed to the backpack. Normally, I am glowing with LL Bean recommendations and I will even keep some of their ' not-so-stellar' products if I have used it a great deal. However, I will be returning this item I have put too much time and good thread into this backpack to just let it slide. I have other LL Bean backpacks that have had for years this was a hit and a miss!

Years ago we bought our son one for high school. Now I own two as my travel gear instead of traditional suitcase types.
Durable,roomy and practical.

Really happy with my new backpack. I bought this so I could be hands-free while out and about with my four kids. I like the fact that it has many pockets - one for my stuff, one for the kids' stuff and extra small compartments for phone, keys etc. Even when I pack it full, it is very comfortable because of the wide, cushy shoulder straps. It sits as it should on my back and is lightweight in itself. I like the fact that I can use it as an overnight bag as well since there is so much room. The bottom pocket I don't use much, but it will be nice for packing shoes for a overnight trip.

Rated 1 out of 5 by annieopolis914 Defective Bottom Compartment
As a high school student, this seemed like a great backpack at first. It's large enough to carry anything needed for school, and it is durable. However, the compartment at the bottom really causes a problem. Whether you have it stuffed full or completely empty, the bag continuously falls over. This gets extremely annoying by about the second day of school, so dealing with it all year was just plain painful! Also, there was no place for a water bottle, which wasn't helpful at all. I wouldn't suggest purchasing this specific style.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MrsGoodshop No chest strap :(
I purchased this backpack for my son because he needed a bigger backpack for his junior high school materials. This pack is nice-looking and holds a lot, but my 5'9" athletic son found it difficult to carry all his stuff in it because the load was unbalanced. There is a waist strap, but that doesn't effectively redistribute all the weight this voluminous bag is designed to carry. I returned it. My son is using his previous LL Bean pack again... the one with the chest strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LitiGATOR This Bag has EVERYTHING!
I got this backpack for my son who is in his first year of college... he is a totally unorganized (but smart) young man who would lose his head if it was not attached. This bag has him organized and together.... finally. There is a place for everything, including his cell phone right on the strap. I love it and so does he. It is so huge that even with a full schedule it is not full.... he can get every textbook, notebook, and paper inside.... plus his laptop and his lunch (when he remembers it). Each of my kids will be getting this bag when they start college!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sugarcane1962 Bean Stands By Their Guarantee!
I purchased a Turbo Transit II backpack for my son who was starting high school. I chose an LLBean pack because of its guarantee and the great reviews. Unfortunately, the first pack began to come apart at the seams holding the straps onto the pack. I contacted LLBean and they exchanged the pack for a new one at no cost to me! The second pack made it through a second year of school, but just barely. This time the padded shoulder pads shredded and a compartment in the interior of the pack ripped at the top seam. Again Bean stepped up to the plate and exchanged the pack. I am hoping that the first two packs were unfortunate "lemons" and that this pack will get him through more than just one year of school. Yes, my son has ALOT of books that he carries back and forth on the subway, but that is precisely why I chose this pack to begin with. It manages to carry all his books and the padded straps make it easier on his back. In any case, I really appreciate the fact that LLBean agrees with me that a backpack should last longer than just one year, especially at this price point. I am hoping that the third time is indeed the charm and that this pack will at last live up to its expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NHSmiley Meets my needs
I needed a gym bag to hold my clothes, shoes, diapers, bottles, and gear for teaching classes. This bag fit the bill and so far has been great. It holds a ton of stuff and keeps me hands free to handle the kids. I haven't had it that long, but am sure it will hold up, it's LLBean. And if not, they'll fix it!

My ancient deluxe bookpack finally died in all of the zipper areas so I traded it in for a gift card which I used to cut the price of this bag in half. One week in I'm pretty pleased. The bag is slightly wider than my old one and the way the stacked pockets are set-up I can carry more books in not much more space. Also, I feel that the bag distributes weight better and isn't as hard on my back or my shoulders as the deluxe was. My only concern is the zippers tend to stick unless you open it from exactly the right angle, but that's not too big a deal. I haven't gotten to use the shoe pocket on the bottom yet but I'm hoping for great things.

Bought one last year for my middle schooler and one this year for my littler one going into middle school next year. So far so good- very happy with the product and it's durability and its ability to grow with them- Here is to a long history together!
