Got this coat as a Christmas gift. The version pictured online is khaki with an olive collar although the color choice was "tan." What I received was darker with a brownish collar. It never came out of the packaging and is being returned. Not sure the right image appears with this product. Have been a fan of LL Bean for 35 years and this is the first bad experience in that timespan. Unfortunately the online photo is not accurate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SteveP1011 Nice Fall coat for all purposes
I bought this coat when it was on sale.
I typically wear it as my everyday coat. The nylon shell is nice, in that it sheds rain, and keeps out the wind. It's vented so on warmer days it does breathe somewhat.
The coat shines as an upland jacket. The front load game pocket is very handy. The shell, and interior pocket come clean very easily just using mild detergent.
When the one I have get's old, I'll happily buy another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Venator2 Rainy day hunting coat.
I wanted a very water resistant/water proof, very lightweight hunting jacket that would still turn brush in northern NH and ME Grouse coverts. I chose this jacket for rainy day hunts when temperatures range from 30s to 50s F, but without the blaze orange shoulders because the blaze material is acrylic, and other raters have said the acrylic fabric is less than water resistant. Water beads and rolls off my jacket (and its seams) which absorbs no moisture whatsoever. I haven't hunted in this jacket yet but I tested it in all the ways I could. I'd call it waterproof, very light, with a mesh back for comfort, a front loading game bag that will handle a Ruffed Grouse (although the loading vent is not large) and pockets are adequate (two hand warmers, two large front flat pockets with shell loops, and a small zippered security pocket inside). The jacket is fairly light (but not fragile) and I think it will stand up to the typical northern New England covers. Fit seems to be a true large. I am 5'7" with broad shoulders and 33" arms. A "short" size option would have been a perfect fit for me, but I can make do with the "regular" large because the shoulders fit well and the cuff buttons comfortably adjust arm length. Downside: The jacket does not breath well as other raters have reported, but it's much, much better than the coated nylon jacket I've used in the past. And, I will need to wear a blaze orange vest over the jacket because I chose the (reportedly) more waterproof tan model. By the way, the price was right with the jacket on sale.

Rated 3 out of 5 by dewman needs more orange
I would definitely buy this coat but a version of it needs to be available that has more orange on it. I won't wear the current version as my outer layer due to insufficient hunter orange, so therefor I won't buy it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by nicknametakenbyothers upland jacket
This is a great coat. I returned it because I do not think the material would hold up in Southern briars. It is reinforced in certain areas but the briars I quail hunt in, find the middle of your back. I have a older version of this coat and it works perfectly in South Africa and South Dakota. I have used it bird hunting in both places. African thorns don't grab like southern briars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TCBean Great fit andcut - Fabric needs to be more breath
I LOVE the fit and cut of this jacket. The fabric weight, look and feel are superb. Great quality for the price. Don't change anything about the cut or design, but seriously LL Bean - this jacket needs to be more breathable. Not sure why, because it seems to be uncoated, but this jacket doesn't breath well at all. Not as bad as the other posters said, but it does limit the jacket's usefulness in warm weather. That said, it makes the jacket that much warmer in cold weather, so for me it's a wash! Great jacket for the price - period.

Rated 1 out of 5 by CraigB703 Wrong fabric, doesn't breath
Every year when I return to South Dakota for opening of pheasant, I buy my young cousin some hunting gear. This year I decided to get him a hunting jacket. From the ics it looked like a good design. The problem with this coat is it the fabric. It doesn't breath. It is coated with some kind of plastic which would keep you dry as a rain coat but is otherwise terrible for the purpose. you get too hot in this coat, I exchanged it for the Chukar which is far superior.
Recommend Bean keep the pattern but use a fabric like the Chukar Jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PSica Excellent coat
It is an excellent coat, lightweight and warm for the mid season. I'm not a hunter but I like the design and I use the jacket for workdays. With another pocket inside it would be perfect.

The product is cluttered with pockets, shaps, pouches and items that weren't visible in the small picture. I will be returning the item. I want a plain field jacket like I purchased from you guys before. Too bad I could just refer to the earlier purchase and say duplicate it. I left the jacket in a rental car and someone else is enjoying it now.
