I bought the red color a couple of years ago in the tall XXL size in this Men's Maine Guide Zip-Front Jac-Shirt. I purchased it two sizes too big purposely so my husband could wear layers underneath it because it is not lined. He said I could keep it and wear it to all the University of Alabama games, so I substituted the red buttons for some white buttons. I layer with a bulky sweater or a turtleneck or both, and have received many compliments on it. I also wear it with the red Jones hat from LLBean but turn down the back brim. They make a perfect pair, especially during cold football weather.
I thanked my husband for my gift that he ordered for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RomRom Excellent jacket
I really like this jacket. It's quite roomy, and the sleeves are long (I usually debate whether to buy regular or tall sized clothing as I am 6' with 36" sleeves-- I bought a regular). The sleeves cover most of my hand when I have them hanging at my side. Some might not like this, but I do.
I bought the Malone colored jacket which is a charcoal grey with a read and dark green windowpane pattern. Its very nice looking, and is almost too nice to wear for any sporting activities (fishing or shooting). Makes a great jacket to wear to church or dinner, not so much to gut a trout.
I consider the wool to be soft and comfortable, though my six-year-old daughter felt it was scratchy when I was reading her a book. Like all wool, its warm and very breathable. I'm glad I bought the unlined version as I've really come to dislike synthetic fabrics.
Down the road I'll likely buy a red version. Very pleased!

Rated 4 out of 5 by N3AO Excellent Jacket for Temps right around 30 degrees
I really do like this jacket. I live on a small mountain in southwestern Virginia, and have been wearing this jacket since the day it arrived. Our temperatures have ranged from 4 degrees up to about 38 degrees, and this jacket is perfect for that temperature range.
I can wear layers under it with ease, and I do. But even with only one fleece shirt this jacket keeps me warm.
I really like it a lot.
I wish the zipper would come all the way up to the tips of the collar, so it would help with the winds on my neck. I can turn the collar up, but if the zipper came all the way up to the tips of the collar I would be able to block out all the cold winds. That's why I gave it only four stars out of five, as, otherwise, this jacket is superb!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Altruistguy Excellent Jacket -- A little loose
I got the tall version of this jacket about three years ago.
I love the look and feel of it. Great by itself when not too cold. Excellent for layering when very cold. Because of its looseness, it works even over a down vest.
My only complaint would be that it is probably a bit more loose than I'd prefer. Perhaps I should've checked how one size down fit me.
I also tried the "windstopper" variation. I found the constant sound of the windstopper material to be quite obnoxious -- I returned it.
But this version continues to be a valued part of my closet. I look forward to opportunities to wear this good looking, well-made, functional jacket.

It is not a winter jacket. But when the temperature is high 40's to low 60's this item is excellent. The 4 pockets are what I needed. Wool is definitely is right material for warmth and keeping the wind out. Other than it being pricey, I am pleased with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CTSully Excellent Jacket - Few Nitpicks
I start this review by saying how much i enjoy this jacket.
I purchased this jacket 3 years ago in store. I am 6'5" 240 lbs and have a 36' waist. I went with the Large tall. The fit is excellent with one exception: the sleeve is about 1.5" short from what i would like.
I wear this jacket 3 seasons and it works great. I went for the non wind stopper lined one as it is more light and layers better. I wear it when working in the garage, hunting, fishing, and tramping around town. I even find it light enough to wear when hiking, and skiing.
What i really enjoy about this jacket is the details: The cuffs are lined with a synthetic material so other layered cuff will not bind and turn your sleeve. The lower pockets have a large entry so that even with gloves i can fit my whole hand in. the entry point however is above the lowest point so items do not fall out. The chest pockets are also large and very useful, but do not balloon out with items inside them. Lastly the shoulder area is double lined which greatly improve the resistance to water or wet snow from seeping in, but the back is vented out to prevent the back from being too stiff and allowing a little ventilation. These details make the jacket for me and i enjoy the thought of them every time. It is also a great value compared to other brands.
I do have some suggestions however that the buyer should beware: The jacket is 85% wool and 15% nylon. Im sure this a cost cutting measure and probably also has something to do with dimensional stabilty but it will affect its ability to provide insulation when wet and also the nylon will singe up close to a fire. Also i find the tall fits do not quite have a long enough sleeve. This may not be fair however since i am far from the average anthropometric male. It would be nice though if the shoulder was gusseted in the back or given a little more material to give a little more movement. Lastly, i am a bit concerned about the zipper lasting as long as the rest of the jacket. It is a YKK however but i would be willing to sacrifice a little more weight to get a brass metal zipper.
All in all a great jacket. I would purchase again, and i do recomend it to friends who have the cheap cotton versions from other brands.

LL Bean did it again. This is a fantastic jacket with a high wool content and a good weight. I had originally purchased the Wind Stopper version but found it a bit too heavy for the kind of use I had intended and ordered this version. The fit is full so I can layer underneath if things get realy cold .
